Embarrassing Choke Job: Scared Ladies...

TN has some of the most diehard fans of any university in the country and as a result we are super critical of the product out on the field/court.

There is a difference between being "super critical" and ignoring the realities of injuries, match-up problems, and espousing ridiculous sexist diatribes.

Other than that though....

I watched the Dayton game earlier tonight. They had 5 girls on the floor who could shoot the ball and not one of them was an all american. They scored 44 points in the first half against you know who. Which brings me to Dunbar. She is exactly the kind of player that Dayton would love to have and would probably be the most highly rated player their team.
Wasn't there any way during the season to get her some playing time so she could hit a couple of shots which, in a game like this, would have turned the tide ?

Uh, personally I find that someone who will not stand for mediocrity to be the exact opposite. The people here b***h about the state of the program demand a level of excellence that we are continuously losing with each season.

Most women's programs would kill to have this level of fan investment in their programs. TN has some of the most diehard fans of any university in the country and as a result we are super critical of the product out on the field/court.

Than you and I have differing opinions on what it means to be a fan. consistent bashing your team and its coach is just classless.

First I would like to give kudo's to our players. They played hard and tried their best. But because we expended so much energy defeating an 11th seed we just didn't have enough in the tank. Once again our coach laid an egg and was out coached by the opposing coach with 1/3 her experience. Holly is way over her head and there is a reason she spent 30 years as an assistant, not getting a chance to coach her own team. I might add player development to her lack of coaching ability. Hard to believe with 6 McDonald AA's we can't find a player to put the damn ball in the hoop. Not an off night shooting just par for the course. The team deserves better and frankly hearing announcer's say Holly deserves the coaching gig because she paid her dues just irks the hell out of me.

This alone shows you're not Lady Vol fans that have followed the team the whole season. Dunbar has played poorly every time she has seen the floor. Her defense has been atrocious and she fouls every time her player easily beats her.

Yeah, it's the fans that make UT such an attractive school to play at.

Nothing like playing your heart and soul out only to be told you choked.

I wish some users would find another team to criticize. In fact, I wish they would stay away from women's basketball in general. These are 18-21 year old young adults you are constantly degrading. These girls commit 4 years of their lives to representing the University of Tennessee, and i think they do a damn good job. Where you only care if they succeed on the court.. I care about them as individuals, both on the court and off. Have you ever fallen short of a goal? Did random "adults" take to social media forums to insult you and belittle you? I'll never understand how someone could type such negative things about these girls and actually have the nerve to post it.

Anyways. I would like to say thank you to the true Lady Vol fans who post positive comments! I enjoy reading YOUR comments and input! I can't wait for next season, and hopefully we will lose a few of these "fans" this offseason. GBO!

BINGO! Dunbar may well develop into a very solid player but she is a work in progress. She needs a lot of development to match up defensively. Maryland would have torched her.

It is one thing to get beat and quite another to play meekly and give games away because you can't handle the pressure. That's what we did tonight, just as we did against Louisville two or three years ago. Another massive choke job--let's call a spade and spade. We sure did play like LADY vols.

We started well--and then instead of gaining confidence we slowly but quite noticeably fell apart! Why? Who can explain it? Graves played scared, and so did just about everybody on the team. It's not a question of talent, we simply cannot handle pressure. We were not aggressive. We did not attack the basket. We had 1 free throw attempt in the game--and ZERO free throws made. Not one point from the FT line! Are you kidding?

We can't handle pressure--and it goes back to the coach. The diehard will talk about our injuries, and oh, wasn't Warlick brilliant to get us to the Elite Eight. We had the EASIEST draw of any of the top seeds! None of the first three teams we played were in the top 35, and we played two of them at home. We had to hang on to beat Pitt, and only a miraculous comeback saved us against 11 seed Zaga. Why are we falling behind by 17 to Zaga.

We basically asked Maryland to win the game because we were too bad and too nervous to do so, and so they did. Maryland didn't beat us--we beat ourselves, again. Geno must feel sorry for us: The once-mighty Vols, too scared to win a basketball game.

I'm not even going to read your dumb post AC.

So if we criticize the LVS, we aren't true fans? Wow, I think just the opposite. If you haven't noticed, the Lady Vols have slipped steadily for about the last 6 years. UCONN continues to dominate and UT has become an also ran. ND has taken our spot among the Elite Womens' teams. At this rate, All those AA players will soon be going elsewhere. I HATE to see this happening. With TBA and the best fan support in the Country; this program deserves better. If you are happy to sit and watch Tennessee slip into oblivion, what kind of fan are you? And they are slipping. SC is the new SEC Linchpin; if you've been really paying attention. Holly just can't get it done. Period.

I am not a fan of womens basketball, but I do not have an agenda against it. this is an opinion of someone with no attachment making an observation from the outside: the unfortunate thing about the womens program and their fans is that they are in the same state of denial that the football program was in during the last years of the fulmer era. your program is not where it was a decade earlier but you do not want to admit it. and it is not so much that your program has slipped, but the rest of the sport has caught up. just like with fulmer, you think because you are Tennessee you should roll the ball out and people be scared of you. that was the case in 1998 but now other programs are investing just as much as you in coaches and recruiting. Tennessee womens basketball is still a respected program, but it does not have the killer instinct it used to. hopefully it will change for the fans of the program, but until you get past pat summit and making decisions to hire and keep people because they were summit people and how she may feel about it if you fired them, you may continue to be getting the results you are getting now.

UT football fans make this oh, so reasonable and ever so helpful comparison quite often on this board. Well, let's look at the facts.

In the last 7 years, the Football Vols have gone
5-7, 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, 5-7, 7-6 and were NOT bowl eligible in 2011, 2012, 2013.

This season the LVs were 30-6, SEC regular co-champions, a number 2 seed and made it to the regional finals. And Holly's 3 seasons have produced a 815% when percentage, two SEC titles and a conference title. Plus, the LVs were a # 1 seed last year.

I think the Football Vols would be very, very happy to have had a comparable level of success.

Sorry, but comparisons to the Vol football program and its decline from the power house years are baseless.

I thought the LV's played about as well as they could, and MD got a little lucky in the last 5 mins-- hitting that 3rd 3-pt shot in a row, the n a lucky two off the glass. We were severely outmatched in the post and MD got a lot of easy baskets inside. Not a good matchup for a team minus it's best 3 bigs. Also not the kind of game we wanted with 0 fouls called inside-- undermanned, and underwhistled. The LV's and Holly are on an upward trajectory, you all hang tight and be proud of them. Kudos to AMass, Isabel, and Burdick, gonna miss y'all.

Maryland had 4 players that can shoot from the three point line and that is where they stationed themselves quite often. The LV's had to guard them. They had a 6'-4" or 6'-5" player who they stationed under the basket. The LV's had a 6'-1" or 6'-2" player who was outweighed by 30 pounds trying to guard her. It was really pretty simple yet impossible for a team without a center to stop.

We were not aggressive. We did not attack the basket.

Graves, Burdick et al were stuffed multiple times when attacking the basket. I kept hoping they would quit attacking the basket.

Not so much matchup, Maryland post was a matchup problem only because our 4 and 5 players played poorly, well the team, I thought the matchup with MD favored us because of Graves and Burdick, especially with Howard and Jones on the court, and Graves attacks better from the top the key. Oh well.

Why would they stop attacking? You have no perimeter threats. Carter passes up way too many shots, Reynolds dribbles in circles, CB is soft and AM plays out of control. Attacking was your only hope. Get to the FT line. :loco:
