Here's an explanation that takes 5 seconds to think up and sounds reasonable for children ages 4-6: Sometimes when people get angry, they use words that aren't nice. That word is one of those and you shouldn't say it because it might make somebody feel bad. The students are saying because they're very upset and want to make florida feel bad. It's immature and you shouldn't act like them.

It's not like you have to burn his ears off because he heard the f word on tv.

He was just as disapointed as anyone else in the statium however, he looked at me and said "are they saying what I think they are"? UT has a reputation of being a good place to go to a game. Family and all. I am sure 75% of the people there are fans because someone took them as a child and they became a fan. Its not like I have never said the word. I just have enough respect to use different vocabulary in the presence of children.

^^^^^^This 1000 times so many on here evidently don't care about anything but what they selfishly want to do. Kiffy will be laughing at the students yelling at him because he knows like Florida knew that they caused it because Florida beat us again and they did not want Kiffy to leave. It makes it look like you still want him. Why give him the pleasure?

Also it's rich that Cheek, a UF alumni is lecturing us on civility when this chant was inspired by the UF players running up to our wall and flipping us off as they were running out the clock. Guess the Florida alumni who runs our school decided to leave out that convienent fact.

Now, now, maybe he's right. Maybe all UT students should act as fine, cultured young men and women 24/7. Maybe letting off a little steam that way shows immaturity and really does reflect as poorly on the university as the chancellor says. Maybe the student section really should show some serious contrition and try to do better. Maybe the students really should heed the chancellor's words......................

Anyone offering an explanation for this behavior is weak at best. Classless and smacks of alcohol induced thinking. Hey it's ok to say....man that's stupid....Sorry!!!! End of story.,,,

At most schools yes.At UT no.The revenue from football is huge.Most people hate Cheek because all the coaches before Butch thought Cheek has had us on an unlevEl playing field against our sec brethren.Unlike Bama Fla.UGa.ect who let the athletic department keep the money they earn.Cheek makes them give it too the academic side where he decides who gets what.Thus causing us too operate in the red for the athletic dept.Bottom line football money should stay in the athletic department like it use to_Our decline started about the same time this went in play.Fulmer hated it,Kiffy did and Doolittle also.

I'm glad this cheer happened loud enough so that everyone could hear it. I want Hart to hear it, Cheek to hear it, but most importantly I want Butch and the other coaches to hear it. Fulmer and Dooley were fired bc they couldn't beat UF and Butch will be fired if he can't beat UF. The fans are not ok with the piss poor coaching job we saw. If I wanted to watch our team look scared when playing the gators I would watch replays of the previous 9 years instead of spending $90+ on a ticket. Butch asked us all to support the team financially, told us things would get better if we gave him the time. Well I just watched us get out coached by Will freakin Muschamp for a 2nd year. So yes, I did scream F U Florida, only bc it was a lot nicer than screaming F U Butch

From what I understand it's some kind of Twitter-like, location based app that lots of college kids are using on campus these days. I'm not familiar with it but that's what a quick search turned up.

So basically you're pissed off because the chant made you have to parent your child.

Your child is going to be exposed to EVERYTHING earlier than you want him to be. He's already been exposed to cursing before you wanted. He'll be exposed to alcohol and drugs before you want him to be. He'll be exposed to sex before you want him to be. It's you're job to teach your child how to handle and deal with these parts of society. But by all means just keep trying to complain about these things until they go away. I'm sure that will work out way better in the long run.

Yeah trying to create a protective bubble around your child so that they don't have to experience anything unpleasant or vulgar will work out great for them in the future. Go ahead with that.

It is really disappointing to me that the UT students today would care so much about spiting Cheek and not at all about the image of the University and it's fan base.

Just remember, once you are deemed that "type" of fan base, it is virtually impossible to change that image. Even years after the transgression(s).

I remember leaving the '96 FL game.....heading towards the interstate on 17th or whatever street it was..... Guys had painted a sheet and were flying it from the 2nd floor of the house ......it said
Spurrier + Gators = Shjt

I immediately felt better
