Elon's america party

Elon, even though his motives are right, needs to stay out of politics and focus 100% on getting humans to Mars.
Elon deals in logic, facts, and numbers. His companies have been successful largely by controlling costs.
Elon mistakenly thinks that politicians are rational and logical like he is. I think he just can’t comprehend just how unwelcome such a perspective is in DC. He probably expected people, including Republicans, to celebrate DOGE uncovering wasteful spending that needed cutting. He found out the hard way just how fiercely EVERYONE in DC would protect their seat at the government feeding trough.
It is enough to make one sick. This is one example of the banality of the uniparty

Maybe this look under the hood did genuinely spark something in him where he's doing this solely for the good of the country, but the problem with concluding that is you have to ignore everything else he's revealed about himself the last few years, which should make us all very skeptical...

And then you gotta wrap your mind around the fact that he doesn't understand basic civics, like the meaning of free speech and the point of checks and balances.
He understands better than just about anyone the „meaning of free speech“. That’s why he bought Twitter and immediately became public enemy number one for the leftists who had been worshipping him the day before for Tesla.
The left despises free speech above all else because they know they can never win an argument open to the opposition.

If Elon really wanted to make a viable 3rd party he would start at the grassroots level, concentrate on local, state and House elections. Build a following with strong candidates that follow through on fiscal responsibility. Get a governor elected and a majority in a some state legislatures.
That's where I think the data mining he may or may not have gotten from his DOGE work might give him an edge. If he can target cities or counties with Rs and Ds that are REALLY disgusted with who they're being offered to send to the councils, state, and DC, he may have an opportunity to build a movement and field candidates that have a chance.

I think there's WAAAAAAAY too much emphasis on Trump vs Musk in this. Trump has a limited shelf life. Like Reagan, he'll maintain some sway in the party but he'll tarnish like old politicians do as his plans fail, become outdated, and are simply superseded by newer, better plans. Reagan did despite the "Contract with America" fervor and worshipful way he was regarded.

If Musk is looking for disruption for the R and D system and Federal spending that's killing us, he's going to need states to be ready to rise up and have people in place to take control that the Feds have usurped. Again, he doesn't need FULL control there, just enough to be the tiebreaker/gatekeeper of the statehouses.

I think it's a positive step if Musk bankrolls candidates that shake up who the swing states send to DC but, like you, I think he needs to shake up cities, counties, and states to really keep it sustainable.

he despises free speech just as much as the left does. he has banned multiple people for saying things he doesn't like, and made it a bannable offense to track his plane. and as anyone who has followed a UT coaching search knows, that is not illegal to do or to post.

I don't have Twitter so I'm not going to speak about whatever else may have happened but I really can't work up much concern over someone famous not wanting their own service being used to hound their location. If they do so via other means as you say it's not illegal.

Planes in UT coaching searches aren’t normally stalked by people who have threatened to kill their passenger, especially when Elon is flying with his children.
And I all I know is I see just about every possible flavor of free speech from every ideological stripe in X. 1000 times more diverse than what you see with the clapping seals on BlueCry

I've heard others, probably huff and nash, with the same lament.

Do you think the platform should be as free in speech as 4chan? Should it be completely un moderated where anything goes?

All Twitter had to do was understand that a man can't be a woman...

Thank you Babylon Bee.

It isn't just politicians thst are irrational, it is the voters. Most politicians just act to get votes.

The real problem with the system in the United States is the bad voter base which constantly voted for gifts over good of entire nation. Until that changes, nothing will get solved.

Free speech only applies to government entities.

Oh Elon, the flavor of the month such a short time ago... DOGE, from the beginning was a joke. Running around cutting pennies from spending that amounts to nothing in scheme of things.

As some smart, logical people have noted, you could completely eliminate hundreds of government agencies and sub agencies like....

Homeland Security
Interior
Nuclear Regulatory
EPA
commerce
Education
Agriculture
USDA
H &H services
the VA
Labor
Border Patrol
Housing
Transportation
DEA
State
Treasury
Energy
General Services
OPM
NASA
Science
FTC
SBA
Publishing
CIA
FBI
FCC
SEC
Peace Corps
TVA
USPS
Federal Reserve

just to name a small sample, and you'd only cut 14% of spending.

86% of spending (defense, healthcare, social security, etc.) is on autopilot. Our fearless leaders in DC only approve about 14% of the budget annually.

I would love to see some sort of political party for adults, but I don't think this is it, just based on the idea that Elon will expect to be in charge, and he personally is not the adult I was expecting. I may be wrong. A key factor in adult politics will be communicating non-stupid ideas, and Elon has the platform, for sure.

I'm amazed how much of everything important is being dragged down by extreme stupidity. On what Planet-of-the-apes timeline to you get Joe Biden, Donald Trump, and Kamala Harris running for president? All three of them could add their IQ's together and still be mediocre.

If anything this looks like, at least on the front end, fighting the insane spending regardless of R or D status.

“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk said Monday. Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people,” he said.
It's just a pretext for him to exit the country when trump crushes the opposition, but superficially you're right it will endear him to a cost conscious public -- and should.

I really want this to be satirical. Like REALLY want it to be.
I wish it were and hope it is. Sometimes the truths a little bit crazy sounding I guess. Elons biographer refers to him as a sociopath.

Obviously, I'm happy to entertain with my crazy sounding ideas while it plays out.

that's a bold assumption. for any uber rich or any politician, yet alone those who cross both thresholds.

he can say he thinks its good for the country, doesn't mean he actually thinks it is. also what is "good for the country" is definitely open for some debate. especially if this split was ostensibly over removal of the EV credits.
They guy saw 1st hand the waste your fed gov is doing. I think he understands budgets and spending, even almost as you do. He understands how bad wasteful spending is.

His team worked hard to expose it. He could have just went back to his companies and focused on that. What's so sad is we could probably cut 10 to 15% of government spending and no one would even realize it

I missed this paragraph in my other reply.
Agreed it is very tough sledding. You need money, media, and a message. He's got two out of the three. That's why I think someone like Amash or Massie might be a good choice for candidate. Money can hire the right speech writers so those bores can delivery a viable message.
Once established, the next 'tough sledding' is to not let it get co-opted by the other parties or loonies within the party.
He'll need to start it locally, in some moderate state. the only difference a third party can make is to be is from a fiscally responsible.

I wouldn't even comment on it, except that he ran as a free speech advocate, and specifically one of the reasons he took over.

its more of the typical "I am for free speech, when its convenient for me"

UT coaching searches aren't ran by people who say they are for totally free and open speech on their platform either.

he banned far more people than those making threats.
