I think stidham and Nunez are our best chances and the two we are pursuing most. And we would take both if we could.

With the size of this class, does anyone have any idea of how many Butch hopes or expects to sign (overall) in the class of 2015? If it should be in the range of, say, 18-20, can we afford the luxury of signing two quarterback prospects, unless they both fall within the category of "crème de la crème"?

I think we will end up with 23-25 in the '15 class.

Grad school does inculcate certain literary habits that I do not choose to abandon, even on this format. I am an anthropologist by training, so we do not use APA formatting; the original post, however, was composed using 12-point font. Anthropology uses an interlinear citation format. Since no bibliographical references were cited, your comment on that point was non sequitur.

Matt Williams is an instate kid to keep an eye on. He's putting up good numbers and will probably camp next summer so his stock should rise a good deal.

5.) Just like 4, this is tough to put a stamp on. It's so early. However, if we are able to get a highly talented QB on board quick, the 2015 class will blow the 2014 class out of the water.

6.) I think we are mainly looking at one. Because we have Peterman, Worley, Dobbs, and Riley. You would think one might transfer but you never know. But if the situation arises that Stidham and Nunez want on board... Can you take 1 and turn one down? Tough decision.

I agree completely with respect to the point you made regarding no. 5. We continued to reap benefits on the recruiting trail for several years after securing Peyton's services.

Is the guy I want, he's not a Texas guy, he lived in Kentucky for 8 years and Texas the last 8 years, still has family in Kentucky that they visit often. Stephenville has preduced some very nice QB's over the years, Kevin Kolb, Jevean Snead, Brandon Stewart (Tenn then A&M) and several others.

Also watch out for In-State prospect and a name you'll hear about more and more Lancaster QB Matt Williams

I believe we'll take 2 next year unless we flip Mcclendon this year from N.C. State, and depending on how many QBs are on scholarship heading in to next year (attrition?).

That biographical info on Stidham is good to know. We have not historically fared well, in terms of retention, with respect to signees from the Lone Star State.

If we are going to continue to run the spread option, then we need a QB who can run well enough to give the offense a true option. That being said I would rather have a fairly mobile pro style QB as opposed to a running QB with accuracy issues.

As an update, Tennessee's big board of elite quarterback prospects for 2015 has grown by at least one. There has been speculation that Tennessee has made a scholarship offer to Matt Williams. If true, I am unclear as to whether this is the instate pro-style quarterback from Smyrna or the dual-threat quarterback from Hickory, NC. In any event, we are looking at the following prospects (with updated rankings):

Dual-threat quarterbacks, listed with offers from UT, are ranked as follows: Stidham (1), Nunnez (3), and Jennings (listed as 28th Athlete).

We do not run a spread offense.
It is a pro style read option.

DT QB use read option in Spread Offense that most are playing in HS.
Pro QB do not use read option, they normally use play action instead in HS.

I agree with you on the Pro style QB, because they have a higher potential.
There is a longer training period needed for a pro style QB to learn the read.

A DT QB will pick up the offense faster, and has more up side on running.
The problem with DT QB is they tend to run to much and end up hurt.

CBJ system takes the best of both, and should be very effective.
You can also use a Pro QB and a DT QB as a HB, or FB and do the same thing ... but it is slower, and Defenders will figure out the timing and shut it down.

IMO, we need a QB on roster to develop and be the guy.
We also need a great Pro QB, with at least 220lbs on him to come in and red shirt next year. It would also be good to pick up a very fast DT QB, in case we get into 3rd team again. He could be serviceable in a pinch.

Has anyone noticed Josh Rosens offer list? I was kind of surprised. It's not as elite as I thought it would be. I am sure it will change because its still early.

Tennessee has offered four-star junior quarterback Zach Gentry of Albuquerque, N.M. As we mentioned in this morning's recruiting notes, Vols offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian was in Albuquerque yesterday to check on Gentry.
