This is not the Elite 8, this is the magic 8. Si does this every year. They are saying the National Champion will come from one of these 8 teams. I think they have never got it wrong, but maybe once. There are rules they can not just pick the top 8 teams either.

It's pretty clear to see that if you read the article. Just easier to comprehend if you put it in terms of "Elite 8" for those that didn't know about this previously.
