Election Results Thread

I have no problem with Russia being behind WikiLeaks as the information was true. If it was falsified, that's grounds for war.

Getting mad at Russia is putting a band aid on a small scratch when you have a gunshot wound in the abdomen.

Russia wasn't behind the Wikkileaks releases and they haven't admitted to anything. This is all from VPs vivid imagination and paranoia.

I never put anyone on ignore. That's wimpy.

I just choose to ignore.

But I'll throw you a bone:

Senior Russian official admits maintaining contact with Trump campaign - U.S. Election 2016 - Haaretz - Israel News | Haaretz.com

As I thought, from VPs imagination. Wanting it too bad so see what he wants to see.

A leading Russian diplomat acknowledged on Thursday that Moscow had maintained widespread contact with the campaign of Donald Trump before his election as United States president.

In October, the U.S. government formally accused Russia of attempting to subvert the election by means of cyberattacks against Democratic Party servers. Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the charge as hysteria and a ploy to distract voters from the failings of the candidates.

"There were contacts" with influential people close to Trump, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the Interfax news agency on Thursday. "I don't say that all of them, but a whole array of them, supported contacts with Russian representatives."

Also nobody from the Russian government admitted to helping Wikki.

I never said they admitted to being behind Wikileaks. I said they hinted. A top Russian diplomat seemed to suggest that in his comments recently, but I can't relocate the link.

Anyhow, I'm sure Vlad is crying in the Kremlin right now, because he no longer has his crime pal, Hillary, to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

I have a big problem with any foreign nation trying to actively influence/change my nation's elections and to cause chaos so as to throw into question the fundamentals of American governance.

Further, I also pause to ask what about its candidate of choice does it see as desirable in apparently achieving these aims.

First, influencing with truth and proof of corruption is a national blessing as it saves us from unforeseen improprieties that may counter what the people of this country desire from its government.

Second, we always tell our children to apologize and make up with their enemies. Why is foreign policy different? People are so sjw about world peace but never follow through fully. I am. I want us to be allies with Russia. Trump gives us a better chance at mending a relationship with a global power to get closer to that goal. If you prefer war, threats of nuclear warfare and having a power nemesis then you might be better off playing video games and staying out of the real world.

There is a bunch of international shuffling of strategies going on right now.

Prof, that's dishonest and you know it. Hinting at it is pretty weak sauce to begin with.

Russia and the US can never be allies. The two nations are the would-be and de facto hegemons of Europe. There's too many competing economic interests for them to ever truly cooperate. Thinking that they can is good-spirited, but it is ultimately a pipe dream. And the men in the Kremlin know this.

At one point powers thought this of the Germans, French, English, etc. Yet... here we are.

So, like hog, you seriously think Wikileaks, a liberal privacy and transparency group, just constantly hacked the liberal candidate in support of pro-transparency candidate, Donald Trump, a man who we know hardly anything about of any real significance, save for the fact he lost one billion in 1995?

I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

In this I agree. It would take a common enemy the size of a combined India and China for that.

What you fail to understand is that it's not the countries themselves that were/are allied, it's the people financing their leaders that are aligned.

As it was all true, I don't care who is behind it. It merely created a small transparent window into improprieties from the Clintons. I'm not concerned with who funded it. Again, if it was false, I have a BIG problem with it.

They didn't hack the liberal candidate, they hacked Hillary and the DNC.

At one point powers thought this of the Germans, French, English, etc. Yet... here we are.

The Germans, French, and English are Western liberal democracies, who have accepted the inevitability of and the supremacy of the American global order. Russia is an Orthodox-oriented autocracy that has never and, most importantly, will never, accept any such thing.

And the US has never struck me as a nation to back down from thinking itself supreme.

Both Russians and Americans think of themselves and their countries as THE truly exceptional. For that to ever change, one will have to bomb the exceptionalism out of the other, as the Soviets did with the Germans and as we did with the Japanese.

With that mentality it definitely won't happen.

If I can just think positively, I can will the Chekists in the Kremlin to think warmly about me too.

You do realize that the government of Russia is ran by its security services, correct?

Those aren't men that played rhythm guitar for a 1960s folk band.

Looks like CNN is projecting Trump to win the popular vote to. I guess there are still votes out there needing to be counted.

Just wouldn't expect them to be Trump votes. Then again could be somebody found votes from precincts they didn't want to count, and now it doesn't really matter.

Hahahahahahahahaha. You think the 1A is a threat for going away under Trump? You're slipping to D4H territory.

A bit tangential, but didn't he say something during the campaign about wanting to change the libel laws in the country or something, re: some stuff from reporters?
