Maybe this will help you understand smarty pants: the fielding problems you mentioned, if HC IS IN DUGOUT while team is at bat, he can also simultaneously MANAGE, plan, and hold players accountable for defense, while delegating to his 3b hitting coach simultaneously! HE can’t do that from third base, its not possible!

Alternately, for the football brains: What would you think if someone like Steve Spurrier or Josh Heupel went to press box to call offensive plays then back to the sideline when on defense?

Would you want any head coach not in full control of the dugout or sideline?

Why would you not want your head coach where he needs to

He has assistant coaches for that. Let the man coach the way he wants. You can start talking about firing him next week.

The (2nd) worst thing about losing in baseball is that it attracts that element of our fan base to migrate over here to our otherwise rational haven of conversation.

I'm glad I left Twitter 2 years ago, though. I'm sure it's a cluster right now.

And a lot of idiots will join him. It will be a topic every time Vols lose.
Wouldn’t necessarily call them “idiots”. A sound case can be made for managers staying in dugout. I mean… he’s cutting his time in half to look through scouting reports, get status updates from his bullpen, etc….

This is why he has a pitching coach. CJE has a great staff & a good head coach lets those guys coach their players. Key decisions CJE makes on offense is bunt, steal, hit & run, etc. He’s fine doing that at 3rd base. That’s one less signal he has to deal with opponents stealing.

Most of these individuals admit only starting to follow college baseball when Tennessee started to win a few years ago. Now they feel empowered to criticize the coach after 7 games who has been in the game majority of his life. I know how to plug in an appliance & change a bulb but It’s like me telling my electrician what he should do repairing a problem.

I’m sure they’ll be plenty of baseball decisions we can second guess later this year but the 3rd base coaching box one is idiotic. He’s comfortable there. Let him coach.

I’m still not certain, based on the evidence presented in this thread so far, how any of our problems can be attributed to where Elander positions himself on the field. We gave out 13 free passes on Sunday. Kent State scored 6 of their 9 runs in two innings where they got 1 hit. Don’t think standing in the dug out changes any of that at all.

And the bats are just cold. Elander has stood at 3rd for years, including for teams that hit historic amounts of long balls. I don’t know if Elander will always stand at 3rd for the rest of his managerial career, but whether he makes the move to the dugout or stands on the 3rd base line, it’s not going to impact our performance at all.
