If this is what real Tennessee fans look like, I'm horribly disappointed.

I thought we weren't the home of bandwagon losers who will bail because of a coaching hire.

I had ideas on head coach I would have liked to have gotten at UT, but it did not happen.

D. Dooley was not high on my list, but I was going by what I knew about him, which was not much. Apparently he is going to be our new HC.

I can gripe and make all kinds of noise about it, but it will not change the fact. All it will do is cause others to become discouraged, divided, and weaken the Vol Nation, not to mention any and all recruits and players hearing all the negative lose interest in Tennessee, or their pride in our great university decreases.

Let's get together and go hard with what we have. Let's support this new staff and appreciate their effort to overcome all the negative stuff that the weasel created as he was sneaking out under darkness, and the scum with him exposed themselves as being of like character.

all the doom and gloomers tearing down Dooley - BEFORE he is even officially named as coach - were the same ones spreading their doom and gloom about our basketball team....."no chance against Kansas" blah blah blah.

I'll support whoever we hire and give him a chance to show what he can do. Could you imagine the backlash and outcry on this board if Hamilton named a professor to be our next coach!!!??? You just never know how things will turn out

I realize, UT has taken a chance on several unproven coaches in our past...and some of those turned out ok....in the 60's Bob Woodruff hired a guy that used to be his QB at Florida even though he had zero coaching experience (Doug Dickly went 4-5-1 his first year but had a great record after that including a couple SEC titles).

gee, we even hired the Professor of Military Science to be our head coach in 1926 (of course we later named the stadium after that guy).

As a UT fan I will say this, I am not pumped about this hire and admit to being a skeptic. With that being said I will back the head coach until he gives me reason not to.

It sure seems like a depressingly bad hire to me. But once it's done, I'll take a week off from thinking about it at all, purge, and then support the guy. It's my team and my alma mater. What choice do I have?

o great....well lets enjoy bein down in the SEC standing next to vandy and kentuckey for bout 5 years then hamilton will be fired, fulmer will become AD, he'll then hire a coach and it'll take 3 years to start buildin the program back up!

Yes, I am sad that it has come to this point, too. We should all be reminded that the next coach didn't ask to be put in this position. We asked this person to step in as a Vol. Let's lift that Volunteer up instead of doing our best to knock a Volunteer down. Let's make good things happen.

Dooley wasn't even near the middle of my list let alone the top, but I am Vol and that is what matters. Confindent in bringing in a great staff and getting a few great recruiting classes. We will prevail.

Everybody will get over themselves in due time and Volnation will be back.

I am A VOLS fan not a coaches fan. Come Sept. I will be in front of the tv doing my fall ritual. Getting drunk,eating food,cussing bad play calls and bad refs, and praising good plays. But will someone please show me where Dooley is hired. He wil be our 4th HC in 24 hours and I still can't find this one confirmed either. In all honesty I wanted Kippy but to borrow from MTV--I Want My TN Football and I Want it Now!!!!!!!!!! GBO!!!!!!

I'll root for Dooley until he's shown the door. I'll criticize him until I see a good reason not to.

1) I love since I make a prediction about the football program and then you have to try and "burn" me by saying I have not had sex in a while. What does sex have to do with saying Dooley is a bad coach? Please tell me.

2) Look, I had no idea what to expect with Kiffin in terms of what he would do and didn't say I would. I know Dooley won't win a SEC title and a lot of people seem to agree.

3) For someone who said that Lovie Smith was going to be our coach, and started a whole thread about an inside source saying it's true, should you really start flaming people for predicitions?

Perhaps that would explain your pessimism and crankiness.

I'm glad you have the amazing foresight to see this guy's entire career and predict that he will be a dud. Did you call Kiffin's early departure, too?

Look, there's truth to both sides. This may not have been a very good hire, given the guy's lack of experience on the big stage and his record at La Tech, BUT at the same time, we all have to rally around the guy to give him any kind of chance at making it work.

How's it gonna look to recruits that come in or who check out message boards and they see all this in-fighting? Don't think they don't look either....I know, they do.

Whether the guy is the right choice or not, we have to strap on the orange, show up at games and functions and cheer on the Vols, period!

I have seen a lot of fault in every realistic candidate that has been posted. Gruden was FIRED and Lovie is going to be fired and is hated by the people in Chicago. The Houston coach got his ass handed to him by Air Force in the bowl game. In short, none of them are great candidates, and I do not see anyone putting forth ANY name of any realisitic candidate that UT has as chance to land. Zero. You people are not being realistic.

Derek Dooley knows this is going to be tough. He knows as well as anybody what he's getting into.

He also knows that he wasn't anybody's first choice for this job, except maybe his dad.

He's got the guts to come to Knoxville anyway, knowing he's going to be expected to beat Bama and Florida sooner rather than later. And he's leaving a place where he's his own boss to take this job on.

When he's introduced as our next head coach, he's a Vol. And he deserves our support.

I'll be at the games and the Vol walks like I do every year. I'll keep buying UT stuff like always. And I'll watch on TV when I can't be at the games. Cause that's what fans do.

And sometimes I'll be happy and sometimes I won't. But I'll always be a Vols fan.

My sexual life has nothing to do with the ability to see that Derek Dooley is not a good hire. I'm here to talk UT sports, not how much sex I get or do not get. Are you going to question how much sex 95% of VN is getting since that's the number of legit posters who think this is a bad hire?

And actually, go look at my posts and I said that Kiffin would be gone once Carroll left. I didn't think it would be one year, but yes, techinally, I called that one.
