Egg On His Face

in light of current events, Im livid that MH tried to sell the fans on the idea that the Tennessee wasnt as attractive as we all perceived it to be. isnt the AD supposed to add value to the program???

MH should have a PR person putting out all the PR garbage. That way if he ever decides to change his mind and go the opposite direction, he can deny the fact he ever made those comments.
It helps reduce the "I was a fool to believe" factor.

"Somewhat but not exactly... Mich isn't having alot of success even replacing Carr... and what exactly has Miami done in spite of being in possibly the greatest concentration of HS football talent in the country?"

They've won 5 NC's in the last 20 years.

So, in the case of Miami past success excuses their current problems? Are we really going to excuse their performance since 2001 because they won 3 titles (and lost one due to defeat at the hands of the Volunteers) in the 1980s? That doesn't feel a little bit hypocritical?

Miami fired its coach after last season, a coach with an 80% winning percentage and a national championship in this century, they weren't receiving excuses or living off the past success. That said, it seems possible they made a mistake in their hiring of Randy Shannon.

You can bet the house though that if Shannon does not get things on track ASAP they will find someone who can. It's called accountability, something that has been lacking in the UTK football program for far too long.

Absolutely agree, left a mess behind at Louisville. Never a big picture guy, just one day at a time, mostly because he is always looking to get onto the next job. And was despised by even the most decent Falcon players. When you have Warrick Dunn mad at you, your really an ass.

I agree. Arkansas did not get a very good coach. While I think Tennessee is one of the better coaching jobs in the nation, I don't think Arkansas hiring Petrino carries much weight in dispelling Hamilton's statements.

I know i'am tired of all these NFL rejects coming back to college and landing in the sec. Hamilton's credibility and accountability went out the window when he stuck his foot in his mouth by stating the following. Two sec titles in ten years. Then turning around and handing out raises and extensions when those goals can clearly now never be met wtf? For anyone that ever had a doubt that mr hamilton wasn't a homer then this should clear that right up.

Top 10? Ehhh

Florida
Florida State
Miami
Alabama
Michigan
Ohio State
Texas
Oklahoma
USC
LSU

Then it's either Penn State or Tennessee, I guess. Nebraska, even with the recent crap, is probably better than Tennessee. UT is top 15.

Miami?? Michigan?? Alabama???

I would say Tennessee is ahead of all three of those not to mention LSU as well...

Tennessee is defintely a Top 10 job...

I'm not quite sure how anybody can judge how good a job Tennessee is...the position has been filled by only 2 coaches in like 30 years and with MH continuing to give extentions there has been no talk of Phil leaving...How can you tell if a job is lucrative or not that has had no chance of becoming open??

Yea.. I agree with this 100%...

I would just like to beleive that with all the tradition we have and facilities Tennessee would be up there...

But good point... :good!:

I would think we would be up there as well but we have no way of knowing unless there are strong indications that it will become available and we haven't had that in years...

Mike Hamilton has egg on his face. Remember at the height of the fire Phil fervor, Mike sent out a letter in which he presented the idea that maybe the volnation was suffering from delusions of grandeur with regard to our head football coaching position. Now that Arkansas has managed to snag Petrino from the Falcons and Saban left Miami, am I alone in thinking that Hamilton looks like an idiot for floating that out there. You can accuse me of wearing four-inch thick orange colored glasses, but I just cannot believe that Arkansas is more attractive than Tennessee. I think MH drastically underestimated the appeal of a job like Tennessee.

And Petrino is great because why???? He is vastly overrated at this point. He improved a Louisville team in the Big Least and everyone annointed him the next greatest coach. And his character??? Arkansas can have him. I wouldn't trade Fulmer for a classless loser like him in any situation. Some wannabee anyalyst talking about how great Petrino is means nothing to me....lets see a body of work in a major conference before we make him great...and let's see if he can improve his classless image

Yeah leaving a team while the season was still in progress shows no class. Mr petrino better hope he makes a big splash at arkansas because he will never get another nfl job.

People need to get off Hamilton for granting the extension. He either has to grant an extension to get his coach under contract 5 years out or he has to be prepared to fire him. Granting the extension has very little to do with a massive show of support and is really nothing more than doing business in college football. I'll bet if you look around college football, most coaches in America have contracts that run through 2011 or 2012 because they have to in order to compete.

Bobby Petrino spent every single one of his years at Louisville trying to find another job and then quit on the Falcons before the end of the season. And he WILL fax resumes from his Arkansas office next year while telling everyone how much he loves being a Razorback. Bobby Petrino has NO credibility, no ethics, and would just as soon lie as breathe, and if he came to my door to recruit my kid to play football, I wouldn't let him in the house and might even sic my dog on him. (He's a beagle. It would be more of a symbolic gesture than anything else.) The same with Saban. I'd rather have Fulmer than either of those two any day of the week.

Yeah thats cool. Stability is what he is trying to create but what's the message he's sending. That its ok to be average. Giving phil the raise has done nothing for recruiting as hamilton has stated. So i ask what was this for other than his sign of support for phil.

The raise is a separate issue altogether and I think that is fair game for debate.

yup just look at how many coaches got extensions the season before they got fired. it happens ALL THE TIME. It's all about recruiting. btw: anyone thinking tenn is a better job than michigin better stop smoking whatever they are smoking.

The raise is a separate issue altogether and I think that is fair game for debate. I was just pointing out that it's standard practice to extend coaches whenever their contracts get within 4 years of expiration just so they can go into a kid's living room and be able to say they are committed to being their for their entire career.
Yeah i get that GA. An its necessary for the good of the program. But i tell you the longer it goes without us winning anything of merit, even a great recruiter like phil is going to have a tough time. We have the facility's and the big stadium and national tv every week. Not to mention all the players we turn out for the nfl. But i just see things getting tougher and tougher in the coming years. We need to end this drought and get ourselves back on the map. I'am just growing impatient with the whole deal.
