this is crazy, what does he think that all African American males are "thugs" and just go around killing each other?.. this is stupid

Reflects his views. Blacks are completely incapable of accomplishing anything on their own. It will take the likes of him and others to get into positions of governing for a black person to have a chance at ever succeeding at anything. My view of his opinion, not my opinion.

I'll have to see if I can find the study but the commonly stated line that more AA males are in prison than college turns out not to be correct. Overall, the number is about even. If you limit the range to college years (about an 8 year span), the number of AA males in college out numbers those in prison by 4 to 1. Still not great but not the myth that has been presented and appears to be perpetuated by Edwards.

I don't know but would guess it's significantly better than for AA males.

I would never suggest that racial discrimination doesn't exist or that AA males don't face a different challenge than W males.

I'm tuned into the subject because I work in an environment where race is highlighted in many situations. Claims of inequity are so common (and mostly without merit) that I've become jaded to real cases of racial inequality.

When I see pandering to racial inequities (ala Edwards in this thread) I see it as particularly offensive pandering since it masks the real race issues that exist.

I'm surprised he didn't somehow blame Bush.

There are study after study that show as the AA population in a city rises, (even when controlled for population size, demographics, gender, and economic status) so does crime.

Bureau of Justice Statistics Homicide trends in the U.S.: Trends by race

That is just one from the Bureau of justice.
Exactly where in that study does it say that it has reconciled the data with that of economic status and criminal activity?

I understand what the facts say from 1976-2005, however, you seem to be implying that urban AAs are more likely to commit violent crimes simply because they are black. Until you present data on young, poor, urban, white males and their propensity to commit violent crimes, then I am going to have to assume that your view is considerably more influenced by racism than by science.

In regards to college, how is it harder for a black person to get into college than a white person? For example at UT, the standards for a black person to get admitted were lower (GPA, test scores) than a white person.
