Edric Owen is a former Vol that backed up Johnny Majors back in the day. He lives in West TN (Halls) and has no home. I met him in a local store and when he walked out, someone told me that he played football for Tennessee. He smelled really bad! Word is, he has some land and when he dies, it goes to UT. His wife died a while back and that is when he changed, let his house go down.
I saw him parked at a gas station several days ago sleeping in his truck. It was raining so it may have been too muddy to park where he usually does.

Can anyone confirm him at Tennessee?
Can we help him?
I hate it for him.

I will check with my Dad....he was on the team in those days. I will see if he knows him.

Well i've lived in the heart of Halls all my life. I'm like 1.5 miles from Halls High School, lol. Now im only in my lower 20s, but I've never heard of them and my father whom has been a Halls resident his entire life has never heard of him....

Actually I googled Edric Owen at least hoping for a Wiki hit or something to help, and I found out he actually lives in my town, according to a website like whitepages or "lookupanyone.com" or something like that. Assuming that is really the former football player. My hometown is ten minutes from Halls though...seems plausible

if the guy is legit, it would be really cool if the current staff could hire him to do something. just throwing that out there.

Not to be a downer, but you have to want help to get help. If this all started when his wife died, no telling what state of mind he's in. He might refuse help. Whether he played football for UT or not, he's a human being and deserves compassion. If you want to get anywhere, just talk to him.

Seems like something could be done. Someone on here could give him a job or something.

How about you get him a job? Feel sorry for the guy but anyone with a business worth half it's salt isn't going to put a homeless guy behind a desk.

I believe the OP was referring to the Halls in Lauderdale county in west TN near the TN border.

I did a search and it shows him living in Memphis then a move to Ripley, that was the addresses for Edric C Owen.

Agreed. Social Services, Habitat for Humanity, etc. are all there for a reason. That would be the best way to help but a person has to be willing to accept the help.

Not that this matters...but 'Edric' sounds like an African American name. There were no dark skinned players in Majors' era.

Just to clarify, the OP is referencing the Halls in West TN not the Halls in North Knoxville. There are two Halls High Schools in TN.

Methinks some folks may be presuming to much. First, we need to be sure this is legit. Second, on the outside looking in it may appear Mr. Owen needs help, but Mr. Owen may not need or want help and would be highly insulted were someone to begin showering charity on him needlessly. Thirdly, owning a vehicle and having land keeps a person from technivcally being classified as homeless. Certainly if this is legit AND Mr. Owen wants and needs assistance I'll contribute to a legitmate fund to help him.

Rather than people giving their own hard earned money to help a guy that let his life go downhill (understandably so) when his wife died it would seem that if he really wants help or to change his way of living he should sell his land. I am assuming it is worth something if he is donating it to UT. It sounds like he could use the money a LOT more than UT.

I would be far more inclined to help a homeless family who are trying their best to improve their lives, but can't because of bad luck, the economy or whatever over an old guy who just doesn't seem to care about his life anymore. It doesn't seem like this guy needs the help more just because he was on the UT football team about a half century ago. If the hypothetical homeless family I mentioned had land to sell they would do it.

Between this and my illegal immigrant rant that I deleted in another thread I don't know what has gotten into me this morning. :)

I know a guy like this in Ga just miles from Chattown. He was a big scientist for Tva and his family got killed. I gave him money and seen others do so.He had a wad of money like you would not believe. Point being the guy chose to live that way and didnt want a place to live. This guy may be the same way but it doesnt hurt to check.

Local TV just did a story on David Vaughn out of Brentwood that was playing big time NBA ball up until 3 years and now lives on the street. Makes ya thankful for what you got.
