[edit] Trooper Taylor as OC

Who else misses the good ole days when Randy Sanders called the plays? He never saw a Screen Play he didn't love.

Randy the Defense is showing a 3 man rush out of a Dime package. Bubble Screen sounds about right to me.

Randy the Defense is in full prevent. Hell a Crack Screen is just what the doctor ordered.

Randy the D is playing Man to Man press. Well son I think a Slow Screen will make them think twice.

Randy you won't believe this but they got 9 men in the box against our 4 wide set do we go deep.

Naw but I can't decide if we should do a delayed HB draw or a delayed Jail Break Screen. Hell our Oline can pick up and hold a 9 man blitz no problem.

His playcalling became so stale and predictable those last few years me and my buddy made a drinking game out of it. A shot of Dickle everytime he called a screen. We came close to Alcohol poisoning a few times during the 2002 and 2005 seasons.

All the what ifs.... What would have happened if Fulmer would have promoted Trooper Taylor as OC instead of bringing in Clawson. Would things have been different? I personally didn't think he was that great of a coach. Sure he could yell and scream and jump high not to mention give great chest bumps but none of the positions he coached reached beyond expectations. (Sorry guys-brain lock)

I got close to Trooper but did not feel like he was OC material at that time. Not sure his personality fits being an OC. Maybe a HC, but OC requires a lot of discipline and his excitement might get in the way.

He needs to try either OC or HC at lower level to see how he does. Might be great but be hard to get start at SEC level..

Putting Randy Sanders in charge of the offense was the beginning of the end. Maybe for the reasons that the other poster suggests but his offense was just laughable at times. Laughable for the wrong reasons if you were a UT fan.

I think Sanders got way too much of the blame for the downfall. It was all on Fulmer.

The chest bumping towl waving champion of the world! We had some good receivers while he was at UT. It seemed like the players liked him. If he and Chuck Smith coached on the same team I would not be able to tell them apart. GBO!!!

What ever you think!

Hasn't he been listed on the top recruiters in the SEC list pretty much every year he has been in the conference?

I don't understand the need to downplay what he did. As I said, I'm not sure whether he was coordinator material, but he was a fantastic coach at UT and I was really disappointed to see him leave. Anybody who wasn't is crazier than a sh!t house rat.

I agree. I always felt that he let Sanders call the NCG his own way so that if Tennessee lost it would fall all on him but that he pulled back after that. Sanders even made a comment once to Fulmer being too controlling. Fulmer never stood up for Sanders either.

Fulmer neva let Sanders control tha ceiling fans eitha...It could be 85 degrees in Randy's office and coach Fulmer would come in and tell Randy to turn em off. Randy would do it too, cuz he was afraid of Fulmer takin his door off tha hinges, if ya know whatta mean.. Am I right fellas?

I don't see why anybody at UT would bag on Trooper, especially at his positions not performing.

He coached running backs in 2004, Riggs and Houston both ran for 1000 yards.
In 2006 he coached receivers and Meachem, who had underachieved to then, became an AA.

Idk about his ability as an OC, but dude can coach positions.

I agree with this poster.... Never did see Trooper as that good (or great) of a coach. I mean, if he really was that good then the Houston/Riggs backfield would have AT LEAST been equivalent to the Cobb/Webb or Hayden/Garner tandems. I know, I know they both had 1000 yard seasons but with the holes they had should've had more! Both ran "scurred" thus ran to get tackled. Never will forget the SECCG when Riggs broke it, only one man to beat and ran straight into him head up. Did Tayler just not develop the talent or was the running back class of 01 and 02 just busts?

Yeah, those dang double 1000 yard seasons are just run of the mill. I guess we got so tired of them that we just decided to completely can the running game for 4 or 5 years. Taylor was an awesome coach and an awesome motivator.....I don't think he was or is OC material. Would love to have him back on staff as a recruiter and position coach.

Its hard to believe he wouldve done worse with Clawson, but at the very least he would possibly held onto and brought in some better recruits.
The year he took over RB's I thought he did a helluva job, had 2 1000 yard backs.
I also thought his WR's were much better than Pat Washington (i think) later groups
At Okie State he coached Dex Bryant who had a pretty darn good career.
But at Aubie his WR's havent been all that great so its hard to say.
I think he also coached Roydell Williams

I kinda liked the guy, but did grow a little tired of some of his antics.

His anti-Vol antics while at Auburn with recruits tells me he has no life line back here. And that is a good thing.

I can assure you that Gunter Brewer is responsible for the success of Dez Bryant at OSU.
