Eddie Gran: A good man

You can hardly blame Vol fans for being upset with Gran. We've all been conditioned to believe that assistant coaches should stick around until retirement age. The concept of an ambitious assistant coach trying to move up in the world is a little foreign to us.

Haha that's true! We aren't used to having assistants that other teams actually want!

I think we would have kept gran if we needed him. Look at it like this. What was our weakest part of the team. It cost us alot of wins. Special teams!! We will get it fixed. Gran got out, maybe even asked out. Just thinkin....

Nope. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Don't be ridiculous. CEG is a wonderful coach and even better man. People who thought he was going to be here for the long haul were only kidding themselves. I respect him as much today as I did before he even got on campus. I've always been a big fan of his. I wish him nothing but the best at FSU. It was a privilege to have him in Knoxville for the short time we had him. Many of you who find it necessary to constantly berate him for making the same decision anyone would have are just crazy. I'm sure you wouldn't take another job--in your home state no less--for double the salary, would you? You deserve great things, coach, hope you are successful wherever you go in the future.

Good post.

I think it goes beyond assistants. It seems like whenever anything doesn't go our way the reaction from a certain percentage of our fans is that something outside our programs must be wrong. Like how any recruit who decommits is either overrated or scared to come play here and any journalistic criticism is nothing more than a pro-Fulmer or anti-Kiffin hit piece.

If he liked it so much, why did he leave for another job?

Maybe this is the reason.

The special teams got much better late in the season. It's asinine to blame Gran for the fact that our kickers can't kick.

Another 5* for FSU since Gran left. Lamarcus Joyner. Atleast Joyner and Luc aren't going to Florida!

Glad to see they parted ways respectfully. I wish he would have stayed, but at least it's not more bad pub about a disrespect inside the coaching staff. Good job CLK :eek:k: Good luck Gran.... sorda...

I hope this is widely read... thanks for posting (though I'm not sure you're supposed to!).

He's Sab he can do what he wants...:cool2:

I like Gran as much as I ever did. Those comments are why. We don't need to be sore losers that the man made a decision that was best for him and his family. Kiffin knows what he's doing, and Gran might not have been the long term guy Kiff needs. More power to both of them.

ditto. spot on

we lost a good coach and it sucks that he left. but i'm not going to sit here and bash the guy over the decision he made......especially when he was doing what was best for him and his family.

Still amazed at the grief some are giving Coach Gran. Read the Coach Kiffin article where he talks about Coach G helping with the Va Tech game plan, etc. Class act coach and person. He has said nothing but great things about our program and our staff. For those that have nothing better to do than spew venom about this guy and 18 year old kids that decide to go to a university other than UT, two words--Grow Up.

i have liked gran from the day he got here and will continue doing so. his comments about "learning a lot of football" from lane should fire us all up. eg's a class act and i don't blame him one bit for going to fsu. as i've said before, lane has "his guy" to replace gran already pegged. kiffin and co. are well networked and we'll get a couple more coaches in here i think we'll all be happy about.

kickin wasnt the only problem. we gave up way to many yard on kickoff and punt coverage. but again i know,if our kickers... hung the ball we would have more time to cover. asinine is a little harsh...lol

Can't blame a man for wanting to improve his life for himself and his family...Nobody here would turn down the pay raise he is getting and the better position...He even stayed around 3 days after he took the FSU job to help get the team ready for the bowl game...He didn't have to do that, He did it to help the team...He is a class act and I hope he does well.
