On ESPN2 tonight. A whopping 4,117 turned out for the game.

Living in west Tennessee, I used to try to pull for Memphis but 90 percent of their fans hate Tennessee and I got sick of them years ago.

Now I laugh at their pitiful attempts at football, and hope we hang 50 or more on them in a couple of weeks. I will be there. And I bet a lot more than 4,116 others will too. Like, by a factor of 25.

I would have been there had the weather not been so terrible. But at least I made some money on the game.

That really was a pitiful turnout. Having been born and raised in Memphis, I've witnessed and experienced the jealous contempt Memphis fans hold for Tennessee. I hope we hang 60 on them, and then fill their ramshackle stadium with Vol fans next season.

Curtis Steele. Memphis running back went to my high school... Was good to see him play

Got one better for you. TJ Pitts, Memphis rb went to MY high school. Now what I don't understand here is that TJ was a pretty big recruit (was going to UVA until he figured out he wasn't smart enough, surprise surprise) and yet he gets no playing time. Any Memphis fans please explain this to me. I know he got injured a couple of times, but when I saw him in high school, the kid was dynamic. 4.4 speed, 5'11 200lbs he had everything. What's the deal? And hell Tommy West is even from Gainesville, TJ's home town! WTF?

How is that better when he's the backup? Steele's pretty good if you haven't watched them play.

Anybody? Anybody? Oh that's right, there aren't any Memphis fans...

The football fans are letting the AD know what they think about the coach and direction of the program. Lack of talent, poor coordinators, crappy conference, etc. have led to apathy.

People on the outside will say that if the fans support it (i.e. donate more $$), the program can build facilities that attract better talent. At a school like Memphis, it is difficult to financially support and fund a major BB program AND football program. The only thing that can make Tiger football competitive on a national scale is getting into a BCS conference and getting a share of those nice TV contracts and Bowl tie ins. If you don't think this is true, take a look at Cincinnatti. For the last 30 years, their football program has been historically WORSE than Memphis'. With BCS $$ and exposure, they have been able to substantially upgrade facilities and sell being on national TV to recruits.

at one time it was talk of expanding the big east and memphis being one of the teams

no sure if it's still in the works or not...

Seriously, I just want someone who knows about Memphis football to answer this question.

Heard back in July from several different folks that announcement could come as early as this fall/early spring. Big $$ folks whose company sponsors the Orange Bowl and Big East are supposedly putting heat on BE to take Memphis when they add football playing school. Those sponsorship contracts are up in 2012.

Last I heard was this announcement would come and Tigers begin play in 2012, the schools Centennial. Can only hope that this is true and that RC doesn't screw the pooch on this (ala, his quote last month when asked about realignment, "Our first preference is the SEC.").
