For most of the 90s and early 2000s Tennessee and Florida ruled the east. Now the East is a crap pile. But now it seems South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Kentucky seem to be climbing up our backside about to if not already passed us. But over in the west Mississippi State has clearly zoomed on passed us. Tennessee has the talent. No doubt. But coaching from the top down is the issue. So my question to the fans that actually see this. Why has it become acceptable? When did it become just about getting to a bowl game?

The East is where it is because UF and UT made some bad moves after great coaches. UT going through Kiffin and Dooley brought the school to an extremely low point. Jones has shown he can do some good things but isn't at all the type of coach that can win big games. UF lost Meyer, went through Muschamp and now McElwain. It doesn't matter the talent those two teams can recruit when they are coached by morons.

I have a feeling Kirby Smart is going to start domintating the East for a while.

Congrats to your cats.

Jones is leading the SEC East as well as the entire nation in Champions of Life. He is also living proof that a moron can recruit as long as position is unimportant. He has kept walk-ons on the team while losing 5* players that were using roster spots.

If you look up moron in a dictionary it has Lyle A Jones picture.

With that shiny new extension through 2023, McElwain is probably at Florida till 2020 at least, unless they can manufacture 'cause for termination'.

If UT's AD were smarter, they'd the seize the opportunity to get a coach on staff who could capitalize on Florida's misstep for the next few years.

I think we all maybe need to take a deep breath, step back, and give this East a chance. In my opinion, it's been quietly improved while the West has declined.

Consider this: we may lose to Kentucky next week for the first time in 30-whatever years, yet beat both LSU and A&M at home. That could easily happen, yet who would've ever thought that scenario would be normal back in 2012?

Also, I expect the Vols to beat LSU in Neyland and wouldn't be shocked at all if they stun Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Honestly, Alabama better not sleep on that Vandy game next week, but they damn sure best be wide awake when that guy John Kelly comes to town. Let's not forget how close Butch came to pulling the rug out from under Saban the last time he went down to Tuscaloosa. I honestly felt that '15 Vols team would have had a great chance at winning the rematch if they'd gone to Atlanta like they probably should have that year.

As for UGA, I think they will handle Auburn, but am not sure they beat Miss St - the East can't win them all and Miss St may very well be the best in the West this season.

So, I just don't think the typical "Horrible East/Dominant West" narrative applies this year. These SEC East power programs are actually positioned to begin out recruiting Alabama, LSU, and Auburn this year if you examine current rankings. Pardon the pun, but the tide is beginning to turn, and if the Vols play as well in Tuscaloosa as I believe they will, we may see a statement win not just for UT, but one for the entire East that echoes throughout the country. Don't throw the towel in on Butch Jones or the SEC East yet, Vol fans.

That is giving Kentucky and their 1 win over us since 1985 an awful lot of credit. This is a very reactionary thread. Would it really surprise anyone if Mississippi State loses next week to Georgia? It will surprise me if it's even close.

Just thank God we don't play in the West. We would finish dead last every season with hopefully one conference win and that's only if we drew Missouri out of the East.

It's more a statement of coaching. Not UT vs UK history.
