In my area it just went from severe storms to strong storms -- WTH is the difference ?

Those of you in the northern plateau need to be on alert. There's a Tornado Warning for a border county in Kentucky, and it's heading for the plateau.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Northeast TN has been cancelled. The watch for the rest of East TN continues until 1:00 AM.

Update:

I think the watch we have now will be cancelled soon. The next batch of storms won't get here until early tomorrow morning, so I don't see a reason for the watch to continue. Tomorrow's severe threat will be determined by how quick the morning storms exit the area and the sun comes out.

Update!

There is still an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms for all of East TN today and tonight. Another line will move through in the morning. Then towards the afternoon, supercells will start popping up. Lastly, there will be one final line in the late evening hours.

For those who live in Knoxville and areas west of Knoxville, there is a good chance to see very large hail up to golf ball size or larger (Yes, Nerd-vol, I highly recommend keeping your vehicles in the garage today).

To this point, the main thrust of energy has stayed just to our north and east. This evening should have more favorable trajectory for storms coming into the area. If the complex moving in this morning dissipates and allows the atmosphere to destabilize with the heating of the day, there could be some stout storms later.

Hmmm. They were saying for East TN that the best chance for the storms today is between 2-7pm? Does that sound about right to you?

After this morning's action, I'd probably push that start time a little later. It's also possible that this morning is the main event for many folks. As we saw last night, sometimes these things don't go as forecast.

Update:

1. In the latest update to the Severe Weather Outlook for today, we remain in the enhanced risk area for the afternoon and evening hours. After this batch of moderate to heavy rain moves out, the sun will be coming out. That will help to make the airmass unstable again and fuel supercells and line segments this afternoon and evening.

2. Me, RT, Falco, and others who have posted weather forecasts and info try our best to keep people informed of any impending bad weather conditions. Are we going to be right all the time? I wish, but that isn't going to happen.

Don't sweat it. I realize you all are dealing with stuff out of your control.

I'd rather yall miss the mark by overestimating the strength of a system as opposed to underestimating.

Seconded, big time.

The "SEE! They were wrong, AGAIN!!!" gets a little annoying.

Certainly so, but I chalk that up to human nature. Folks like to feel like they're smarter than the experts or what not. Monday morning qbs, armchair coaches, lazy boy crew chiefs. You name it, folks like to feel like they are smarter.

Btw, did you read my earlier post? If not, I suggest that you keep the nice vehicles in the garage today.

Thanks.

Yeah, I appreciate the thought. I wanted to try to arrange the garage to get 4 cars in there, but I didn't have the time. But the three cars that matter the most are safely tucked away.

Hopefully the storm will spare the other two.
