East Tennessee Weather

Guys, I've got 2 updates:

1. There is now a Slight risk for severe weather from Knoxville to the north and west of the city today. Damaging winds are the primary threat.

2. On Monday, the Enhanced risk area now include Claiborne and Hancock counties. Morgan and Cumberland counties are in the slight risk now. As of now, it looks like there is a really good potential for widespread damaging winds. Large hail and a couple isolated tornadoes are still possible.

As a side note (Mikey, you need to be paying attention to the following): There is a Moderate risk for a Severe Weather Outbreak in Illinois, Indiana, and Northern KY on Monday. What this tells me is that this system is getting stronger. I'm not going to go as far as to say that any part of East TN could be included in the Moderate risk, but depending on the timing of the storms, there may be an upgrade to enhanced risk for more parts of East TN.

P.S. Something that I do need to stress is that there is still some uncertainty regarding the timing of the storms and how widespread the severe threat will be.

Torcon is a 3.

They dont say what 3 means on the scale - it goes by even numbers TOR:CON Value Descriptions
8+ Very high probability of a tornado
6 - High probability of a tornado
4 - Moderate chance of a tornado nearby, but hail and/or high wind gusts possible
2 - Low chance of a tornado, but hail and/or high wind gusts possible
0 - Near-zero chance of a tornado or a severe thunderstorm

Whats that another newfangled storm name like tor con ?

No. A Derecho is a big squall line that contains widespread destructive winds, and it can travel hundreds of miles at fast speeds and last over 6 hours. Unlike a regular squall line, it can maintain and even intensify wind speeds equivalent to hurricane force.

Oh, ****.

Yea. They don't occur often, but the best chances to see one is in the summer months.

I know most of you guys are in Tennessee, but me being in Illinois - I am fed up with the extreme weather all the time - it seems since 2013 it hasnt gotten any better -blizzards, tornadoes forecast almost every other day - its getting really depressing here.

Seems to be a real inconvenient truth.

RT (and if Falco is reading), what are your thoughts on this system?

Keeping an eye on it for sure. Luckily there doesn't look to be a ton of sheer. However, the jet stream energy looks pretty healthy so I'm worried about straight-line wind damage, possibly widespread.

This time of year these things over or under achieve based on the time of day they occur and the local instability. That's what I'm looking at most.

I'm really worried about Tuesday. Our chances to see really bad storms depend on if the Sun comes out on Tuesday or not. If the sun comes out after the complex of storms hit Monday night into Tuesday morning (this is the thinking at this time), then there is going to be some very dangerous storms in the afternoon and evening.

Meh! We had a torcon of 6 for the O&W game if I'm not mistaken, and it didn't even rain.

Now there was a hell of a storm just a few years back(forget what year) but what I remember about it was the downdraft that announced the squall line that no weather channel predicted on this storm. I was watching from inside the kitchen and literally ran away from the windows because I thought they were about to come in on me along with some trees.
