So just saw on Rivals countdown that ECU comes in at #36, 4 spots ahead of the Vols. SO they are saying that head to head ECU would beat us and is a better team. Ouch. That hurts worse than Rutgers being ranked ahead. '09 is the year to start taking back what is rightfully ours!

Preseason rankings are a joke. You can basicly hand a team a BCS spot or cost a team a BCS spot just because of what you think of them during the offseason due to talent level, schedule strength, and media bias (Notre Dame). Just wait till week 3 after everyone has played twice to make the first rankings that matter. Let magazines and writers do their own "top 25" lists to please fans, but the ones that actually matter should be held off until everyone has played games......It adds to the whole "The BCSl is corrupt" argument.

Like duckman said, don't look into it too much. I think you guys are going to be better than most pundits think. My opinion, FWIW, I think UGA goes 6-6, 4-4 in conference and will be the surprise of the East. I think UT or USC will finish 2nd being the other surprise.

I guess was just looking at it from a perspective stand point of how far down in the eyes of the "experts" we really are. The thing is, I like being there before the season starts as we all know UT has ALWAYS been better the lower ranked they were to start the season. Its just crazy to think that teams of that caliber are ranked ahead of us, never would of imagined it 10 years ago.

So Vandy or UK is going to win the SEC East? :) LOL

Yeah I am with you I think UGA will not be anything this year and it's us or SC for a close 2nd!

preseason rankings mean nothing. we were ranked if i recall, as was auburn last year, and look what happened..

ECU is not a typical C-USA team. head to head with the SEC regularly they will lose. but they beat a ranked and real good VT team at VT in week one and then thumped a good and highly ranked WV team the following week. how many ranked teams did UT beat last year?

its preseason poll. it means about as much as ESPN bad mouthing us for all the secondary violations. we will finish higher than ECU.

I don't think they are saying that head to head they would beat us, the pre season polls are like was posted earlier, a joke. ECU did beat 2 top 25 teams but they were 2 very overrated top 25 teams IMO and after that they were really never heard of again

Preseason rankings are indeed a joke. I seem to remember a disastrous year in which we came into the preseason ranked #3...

well you only heard of them again when someone would suggest their coach replace Fulmer. Anyone want to trade now?

I mean, ECU did beat WVU and Va tech. Our best win was...well either a 6-7 nothern illinois team or your pick out of 7-6 Vandy and UK

east carolina was solid last year, I mean you guys did have the worst UT team in like 30 something years. If USC beat you guys as easily as we did, then honestly, ya'll were awful. Although UT will be a bit improved this season

There is no way in hell South Carolina finishes second in the east.

Typically, you look at those who finish strong in the SEC. They all have a QB with experience behind his belt, right? UGA is going to be down... you don't lose talent like Knowshon and Stafford and expect to remain at your current level. UK might surprise a few times. Might. Vandy will be Vandy. USC's fate lies in Garcia. If he plays to his potential, they will be the surprise #2. Otherwise, You guys will be the #2 finish. This is my predicted finish of the SEC East:
1) Florida
2) USC/Tennessee
3) USC/Tennessee
4) UGA
5) UK/Vandy
6) UK/Vandy

Winner of the USC/Tennessee game gets the #2 nod.
Winner of Vandy vs UK gets 5th place finish.

why is this surprising at all? ECU won their conference last year, and had a few "big wins". Tennessee had an awful year, they have a completely new coaching staff this year, and we even lost a few good players.
the real surprise here is that ECU is getting very little respect.

Va Tech Chokies are the most over rated program in the country....FL 2nd string would beat them by 30.....All there fans talk about how great they are and how wonderful Lame Stadium is in Blacksburg but let them play in the SEC and they would be lucky to go .500.

and yet we still managed to beat Vandy

Do you think Skip Holtz would make it in this conference? I don't JMO

no. He got demoted at USCjr from calling plays.

Yep, that's what I thought too....I remember all the BS about wanting him to come here in and coach...IMO if you're going to hire a head coach you want one that either A)came from a major conference and had some success or B)Hire an ex NFL guy that can has great staff potential and IMO that's what we done....General Neyland would roll over in his grave if a Holtz coached the University of Tennessee

Your right. We are a 5-7 team and until we prove otherwise It's a fact.
