I always thought his was the way to go. Kids could get this out of the way and the coaches would get so burned out contacting kids all the way to febuary. I'm starting to rethink the whole idea. Coaches are getting fired a lot quicker than they used to and new coaches will be at a huge disadvantage trying to get a class signed there first year. Two or three months are needed to help build a relationship with a recruit and sway them away from another school that has been after them for a year or more. Schools could hire a great coach but their first signing class could make or break them. If a coach does well his first year at a new school, like Kirby Smart, the recruits take notice and there is a huge jump year two. An early signing period doesn't allow the new coach to be selective and gives established programs more of an advantage.

I think they should do an early signing in June or July, get it done before Fall practice starts

the ones that want it out of the way can do it and it will be out of the way for schools that need a new coach at the end of the season

all they have done is to cause a big problem the way it is right now

I was not in favor of an early signing period for no other reason than it gave us something to look forward to between bowl season and spring practice. But we got it, and yes we were at a disadvantage not only having a new coach but one hired late.

Now for that early signing period in June or July, suppose Bama signed 3-4 kids because of Pruitt. Pruitt moves on to become head coach at UT, those kids that signed with Bama because of him are now stuck at Bama. It doesn't have to be Pruitt, coaches are hired and fired every year, but who would have thought Fisher wouldn't be at FSU in 19? I know kids are suppose to sign with a school, but surely no one here is naive enough to believe that, they pick a school because of the coaching staff. I think this Dec is good for the kids who are tired of the process, but not so good for schools with newly hired coaches When our coach has been here 3-4 years and Smart and Mullen are fired, we will like the Dec signing period alot better.

but that would also mean we would be stuck with Butch's recruits from the early signing period which won't fit CJP's system. waste of scholly's for that year. don't know what the best way to handle it is......

Should have left it alone. First Wed. in Feb. All new coaches have been hired and everyone is in the same boat.

It is a big problem for those schools always looking to fire a coach. And nowadays, that is us in a nutshell. So, if you are in the section that says fire his ass and bring on the next guy every two or three years, you hate this.

But if it gives somebody up there the realization that having people attached to the program that continue to foster instability is counterproductive, maybe they will finally address the big problem Tennessee has been burdened with for far too long.

I think we are seeing more kids early enroll so it was happening at a slow rate anyway. This year it was just a national signing with big publicity. The kids will determine which way it goes whether the coaches like it or not.

80% of the kids signed early so they must like it.

We were unlucky to change coaches in year one of its implementation --- naturally homer fans don't like it.

But it will all work out over time.

It's better for the kids, if not homer fans.

Huh? I am against a June/July signing period which would have left with another class of his recruits.. This December signing period put us behind everyone. If Pruitt was here for 2-3 years and we had 20 high profile guys sign I would be for it, Just unfortunate this was the first year or it.

Am I mistaken or isn't it to be voted on again in a yr or 2? Either way if Big Daddy Saban doesn't want it, it will go away.

I’m mildly amazed at how well Kirby Smart is handling the transition from first year coach to the head of a powerhouse contender seamlessly.

I agree with you. It works for schools like alabama, tOSU, Michigan state, etc that have coaching stability. But if a school has a coach on the hot seat and he signs 10-12 players in August then gets fired in november, it hurts the new coach and his first recruiting class. Don't know why it needed to change from February.

The cream of the crop has already signed . The ESP caught us in transition, we did better than expected IMO. It will get better under CJP's guidance.

As for Smart, he had a pretty good team of players when got to Ga. They just need a change in mind set. Didn't need to be taught much as players.

Yep, lets do that and that will give high schoolers the option of sitting out their senior year(so they can protect their future) just like a few college players are doing for bowl games.
They mean nothing don't owe the team or school or fan base one damn thing. It's all about me I got here on my own, don't owe anybody.

"Liked" all but your last sentence. I don't think Smart or Mullen will be going anywhere for a while.

I like the idea of an early signing period, just not in December. I think summer would be better, before the season starts.

Early, late, in the middle, when TN is 6th in the nation recruiting they're fifth in the conference and 4th in their own division. Figure out a way to improve that and I'm all in.

It's good in the fact that someone that knows where they want to play can sign and not worry about getting their offer pulled.

It's dumb that you have signed offers for kids who haven't even registered for their Spring classes, some of which, have no idea if they are going to meet enrolment requirements.

The player needs to match the system and with all the coaching changes t would lead to a lot more transfers.
