What do you guys think of McNeil adding 15lbs and switching to OLB,move Maybin inside,Bates at OLB so Maggitt can play DE full time

McNeil would have solid speed and coverage for an LB and it would open a safety position for Kelly Jr.

Thoughts?

If we don't see significant improvement in the offensive line, we'll be scratching and clawing for our 6th win against Vandy in Neyland next year.

You think we're loaded at safety? :hmm:

Actually sounds like a great idea! His run support his strong point. I actually wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. If they can have McNeil on the field and get Todd Kelly Jr to be a starter next year, that would be a win-win imo. Plus McNeil would probably be a big leader in the middle of the team. Love this idea!

The ol needs to hit the weigh room and some sleds this offseason hard. Not excited bout that group. They have to show.

I think Weathred is good enough to start. Would like to see more 4-3. Need to do something about safeties getting burned on passing downs too. Gaulden may push for free safety spot. To me randolph plays like a ss. Mcneil should have been an olb.

Will miss darr maybe

Pearson starts over malone imo

Johnson doesn't start at LB for you? Bates better be a Freshman All American with the playing time Johnson has gotten since AJ has been out...

Johnson has a loooong way to go. Think about how many times a game you hear AJ's name called and Johnson is often out of position and has rarely made a play in the last 2 games. Bates played in several games and was ahead of him on the depth chart prior to injury. I honestly think Bynum is a better fit although not sure what year he is.

Early look at 2015 Depth Chart

Tell me this is not a 9 win team.
Our offensive line will be a hell of a lot better, our defense and offense will have more depth. More depth at skill positions. Only loss will be at LB losing AJ. But Bates and Maybin are more than capable.

FR- QB Jauan Jenning or Quinten Dormady
SO - RB Jalen Hurd
JR- WR Marquez North
SO- WR- Josh Malone
SR- WR Pig Howard
SO - TE Ethan Wolf
JR- LT Dontavious Blair
SR -LG Marcus Jackson
SR - C Mack Crowder
SO -RG Jashon Robertson
SR - RT Kyler Kerbyson

SO - DE Derek Barnett
JR - DT Danny Obrien
FR - DT Kahil Mckenzie
SR - DE Curt Maggit
FR -LB Dillon Bates
JR- LB Jalen Reeves Maybin
JR - CB Cam Sutton
SO- CB Emmanuel Moseley
SO - NB Evan Berry
SO - FS Todd Kelly
SR - SS Brian Randolph

I can only hope

Don't forget Chris Weathered. He's explosive off the edge and had a good first season. Look for him to get increased playing time in the bowl game. I think he'd start at OLB if we play a 4-3. He had 2.5 sacks this year in extremely limited playing time.

If Kerby is a starting Tackle again next year I am going to burn this place to the ground and put a bullet in my brain!

I think that 1-2 of the 4 star freshman linemen will end up starting whether it is Jones, Boulware etc. If they come in early they will be contending for spots.

Let's compare sophomore seasons. I'm leaving out Peyton because he was a once in a generation quarterback and Casey because we had arguably the best WR group in the nation that year with Washington, Stallworth, Witten, etc.

Andy Kelly
92 comp 156 att 59.0% 1299 yds 8.3 ypa 7 td 9 int

Erik Ainge
66 comp 145 att 45.5% 737 yds 5.1 ypa 5 TD 7 Int

Tyler Bray
147 cmp 247 att 59.5% 1983 yds 17 td 6 int

Josh Dobbs
96 cmp 156 att 1077 61.5% 6.9 ypa 8 TD 5 Int

Let's also not forget comparable 1996-1997 Vandy teams, where Vandy considered UT as their bowl games. It's a rivalry game. Players can have bad games. They happen.

Peyton Manning vs Vandy 1996-97
1996: 14-7 victory
17 completions 35 att 163 yds 0 TD 1 INT
1997: 17-10 victory
12 comp 27 attempts 159 yds 1 TD 1 INT

Casey, Tee and Shuler are the only QBs we've had who were consistently lights out against Vanderbilt since 1990s.

I think Dobbs numbers are misleading, most of Dobbs completions are on screen passes. Our coaches don't trust him to throw down feild because he is inaccurate.

I don't really know why an off season leads most to believe our OL will be significantly improved.

Most of thm have been in the SC and Offensive system for 2 years. The players nor OL coach aren't just going to suddenly get better.

This. What will be the 3 deep projection for the OL next fall with the new recruits? Why do you think we have a shot at being greatly improved?
