E3 2013 thread

Stuff like that doesn't bother me at all. People that wait til the last minute to buy something like that got plenty of cash anyway.

I mean I get it, free market and what not, but I am not a fan of scalpers either.

What good exclusives did Sony show? Or are just people riding on them cause of the price and re-usable games?

Xbox One is only £420 so the price doesn't really swing it for me.

Everyone knows of Sony's great exclusives. No offense but we don't care that you come in every thread trying to figure out why people are buying it. I will eventually get the xbox one. The only xbox game that impressed me was Forza. Ryse looked cool but it seems like a damn QTE game which annoys me.

What Sony exclusives exactly? Killzone and Infamous.... not impressive.

Recapping of the show starts at post 128 of the thread; start there and read through for the announced games

Also, if you're in pounds, then your price here would be around 349

Is that the standard model though? Or a lesser version?

There's only been a single model and price announced at this point; so presumably it's the main model (seems as though it's being reported at such)

If news comes out later that it's not then it becomes another story. But for now, that seems to be the case.

system region-free per IGN:

PlayStation 4 will be region-free.

This news has been revealed by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, on Twitter:

This news means games bought in or imported from any region will play on any PlayStation 4 console.

This contrasts with Microsoft's decision to region-lock the Xbox One.

At this point the only way I buy a PS4 first is if all my friends do.

that wasn't made in reference to you; that was just being reported in the thread

and in all honesty, more the way these things go is one should buy what they can play with their friends

Some back and forth on the Killer Instinct announcement; some good...some stuff that's making me uncomfortable also:

E3 2013: Killer Instinct Is a Fun Free to Play Xbox One Launch Game - IGN

Killer Instinct was always sort of dumb -- the goofy Mortal Kombat knock-off with a skeleton, a dinosaur, and dudes named TJ Combo (ugh) and Fulgore (what?). In hindsight, Killer Instinct was kind of embarrassing. But we still connected to it. Who doesn’t want to see a ninja fist-fight a werewolf?

Killer Instinct on Xbox One is still really, really stupid. It’s also pretty awesome.

More Street Fighter IV than traditional Killer Instinct in speed and style, this reboot isn’t just looking at how it can bring Rare’s classic back to life, but how it can reinvigorate it. The 2D fighter has changed significantly since 1994, and developer Double Helix recognizes it.

Killer Instinct is fast on Xbox One, unrecognizably so. Aside from the presence of Sabrewulf (ugh) and Jago (what?), you might mistake this for an entirely new game. The bright colors, and thick, black outlines give the characters, who take up a healthy amount of on-screen real estate, a comic book-style shade. Their combos are quick and flow naturally -- I found myself slipping into an awesome combo accidentally, Marvel vs. Capcom style, often.

The move sets are simple, the stylish and devastating Ultra Combos are easy to execute, and the Combo Breaker makes you feel like a badass. It’s basically just a parry with a fancy name, but Killer Instinct regards it so highly that it’s hard not to feel the surge of satisfaction every time you escape an onslaught of frightening kicks. Every big counter feels like an event, and it can totally change the flow of a fight when your opponent's left exposed after your escape.

Familiar, yes, but this is definitely Killer Instinct done differently (and arguably better).

Killer Instinct is a day-one digital-only release on Xbox One, and features -- get this -- one character. Jago is free to play on launch day. Everyone else -- unspecified returning characters as well as original fighters -- will cost money. Price is to-be-determined (of course).

Is this the start of a new trend? With Xbox Live Arcade vanishing into the greater Games Marketplace, perhaps free-to-play is the new trial version, and you'll nickel and dime your way to a more complete version. Hopefully trials of some sort will still mandated so players can try out everything as it hits Xbox Live.

IGN will have more on Killer Instinct leading up to its November release.

Very true. I will probably end up getting both consoles anyway. I feel sorry for your prices in the US though. This is the advantage of having a stronger currency I guess. I could probably afford both at Christmas as it will only come out to around £780 for both.

Found the answer, it's a 500 GB standard model

E3 2013: PlayStation 4 Comes with 500GB Hard Drive, Other Models a Possibility - IGN

Sony dropped a megaton announcement tonight when it revealed that the PlayStation 4 would cost $399 — $100 less than Microsoft's Xbox One — but what exactly does MSRP net you? In addition to the specs detailed in February, Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will ship with a 500GB hard drive, putting it toe-to-toe with Microsoft.

not sure how anyone can defend M$ after all that. bravo to Sony for not caving and going in the same direction that M$ did. hopefully it will put pressure on M$ to change their stance on used gaming and always online, but i wouldn't hold my breath.

M$ will not change their stance. Just like EA they think their diehards will stick with them. I will not be sticking with them.
