I don't doubt his ability, but when is he going to step it up?

he is a freshman an has done what most freshman of his caliber do....had his moments but basically he has just tried to play his role and help out....its not an easy conference or anything....pearl runs a tough system too

i think he has flashes in just about every game. i think what he has lacked thus far is to truly establish a physical presence on the floor.

he's had moments each and every game (that i've seen anyway) where he came up big. i just don't think he's been consistent yet. he's young. he'll get better too.

as he Chism both get older and more experience that could be a duo that will be tough to handle.

can you imagine having them both on the court consistently at the same time....oh the possibilities.

I agree but at the same time, all the other freshmen have shown signs of improvement. Even Tabb has stepped it up. Maybe I'm being a little overzealous when it comes to Crews, I don't know. I just want to see him playing up to his ability.

Wasn't someone bashing Tabb last week? He was like glue on the D tonight.

I wasn't. I thought he also played well in the UF game. He has as much potential as the rest of them.

I just want to know what the heck is up with Dane? What was he 1-9?

He was bad when Buzz was here, he got better last year with coach Pearl, and now it seems that wrist injury has really set him back.

Good point...but you have to admit the Danester is in a slump.:hmm:
yeah, but he doesn't necessarily have to contribute big scoring numbers to be a factor. his hustle plays and rebounding can make a difference. in fact they did tonight....

Very true...I think he had 8 or 9 boards, Dane does the little stuff that amounts to big plays. I just wish he wouldn't force his shot sometimes.

that's a valid point there.

Well, the sad truth is that, for all Dane brings to the table, he's NOT a shooter. He might get lucky on a driving runner every so often, might knock down a wide-open three every so often, but he wasn't a good shooter before the shoulder injury, and now he's a very poor one.

However, I still say his rebounding (lead the team tonight, yet again), steals, hustle plays, and tenacity make up for the lack of scoring.

Chism looks like he creates more opportunity under the basket than crews. I think both of them can really learn from each other's style of play.

He just needs to get more consistent. Like most freshmen, he'll make a great play on one possession and then the next time down the floor he'll make a boneheaded play. ESPN showed a stat during the game saying he leads all SEC freshmen in rebounding. That's pretty impressive. He may have hit a freshman wall and that could be why he hasn't seemed to improve as of late.

The thing I've noticed about Crews and Chism is that they sort of pick up the slack for one another... I mean, if it seems like one is having an off-night/game, the other one is having a good game. Like recently, Duke has been in a slump/not playing well, and Chism has played well. Earlier in the season it was the other way around. The only game where I remember them both playing very, very well was against Texas.

I'm probably Duke's biggest critic, but I think he will get a lot better with time. Before ever seeing him play, I envisioned him having more quickness, better ball skills, and a decent jumper.

But Duke's really not that type of player. He's more of a PF trapped in a SF's body. I would love to see him model his game after Ron Slay or Charles Barkley. He needs to get stronger, develop better post up moves with his back to the basket, get more crafty with ball fakes to create open shot/pass opportunities, and work on his positioning for rebounds (which often lead to easy put-backs). I don't think he'll ever develop Slay's long-range shot, but Duke has a nice shot. It's not like his jump shot resembles Shaq's or anything. I could see him knocking down 10-12 footers with regularity if the PFs guarding him give him space.

I think it will come for him in the next few years. It's just tough watching him now, because you see the potential -- the execution just isn't there yet. He will be very solid in his Jr./Sr. seasons.

 Exactly. He is not playing his normal position, time will show he is a high caliber player.

Crews has been sick the last couple games, I believe. I think Pearl said he had the Flu.
