Any hunters on the board? I just got back from a hunt this morning in NW Mississippi. Only saw 1 mallard and maybe 25 wood ducks. 0 kills. It's been a rough year on public land in Mississippi. Not sure how the private land folks are doing. Wondering if any of y'all hunt, and if so, how is your season going? Think I'll ride out to Arkansas for the final weekend of season.

Yes! I started a thread for this a few years ago and just never kept it up. I get to head back to west TN about 6 weekends during the season. Honestly, this year may be the worst I can remember. The overall duck numbers in our area hasn't been anywhere near where it traditionally is. We've had a handful of good days, but nothing like it should be. A few buddies that hunt Arkansas have struggled this year as well. Just not sure where the ducks are. Think they were hung up on the Northern MO/IL line for most of the season. I'll keep going regardless! Headed that way tomorrow after work for my final hoorah of the season.

I haven't been able to go this year, but a friend who hunts two or three times a week told me it was really good early in the season, but slowed down significantly the end of December. He hunts private clubs in north Mississippi and the Stuttgart area in Arkansas.

We have a lease in Arkansas and first two weeks were on fire and then it slowed down a lot. We smacked em last weekend again. Gonna sit this weekend out with 2-3” thick of ice, but the thaw next week should create great days to finish the season. The key is to hunt the fronts and thaws. If you have that flexibility, you will enjoy it. We’ve killed 400+ so far and only hunted about 15-18 days.

Are ya'll in a field or in the woods?

The general consensus out of Arkansas is that MO, KS, IL have all created huge amounts of private protected land with plenty of food. Most of the ducks are staying there and not moving south as in the past.

Harvested 1 wood duck this weekend. Saw a TOTAL of 7 ducks. Just absolutely terrible. Some buddies in Arkansas did better. They killed 26, mostly gadwall. We all just hunt timber.

I can remember that being a theory 20 years ago as well. Really, really hope it isn't true.

Finally had a solid couple of days last weekend. 18 (plus a band!) on Friday and 16 on Saturday. With season ending on a Friday this year, those were the end of my season so super happy to go out on a high note. Time to start dreaming and working on next season!
