Behind Moi and Eason ..

Nathan Robinson and Wallace both are always injured. Nathan looks ready. Ethan Utley and Isiah Campbell getting a lot of reps but are Freshman and around 270-275 lbs .. so not every down DT .. Can someone else help ? Dom Bailey slide in ?

Not too urgent if Hobbs can be back by game 4-5 .. Nathan and Wallace can hopefully hold the fort but definitely a concern for long season ..

Jamal Wallace, Josh Schell, Tyree Weathersby, Isaiah Campbell, Ethan Utley

Utley will get some 3rd down snaps.

Weathersby is 265, Schnell is 265 lighter than both Freshmen and will get eaten up by good teams in the middle.

Is Wallace a real option? Haven’t heard anything about him in practice reports at all. Didn’t do much last year.

Robinson (300), West (290), Bailey (292), and then the two (light in the shorts) freshmen seem like the best options.

Robinson and Wallace are both healthy and good athletes, but we don't know yet. They're both older.

Eason and Moi are proven.
Campbell (Fr) 6'4" 282
House (Fr) 6'3 295
Utley (Fr) 6'3 270

SDE/DT
West (SR) 6'3 290
Bailey (SR) 6'3 291
You have to think these guys will rep at DT some with Hobbs being out and the SDE group is deep.

On 3rd down you will see this
SDE 6'4 247 Ross
DT West 6'3 290
DT Utley 6'3 270
LEO Josephs 6'3 240
A lot.

We're fine even with Hobbs being injured for now

No doubt in my mind Bailey and West will slide inside to play DT. We need some looks where Josephs and Ross are on the field at the same time. Did that last year with Pearce and Josephs. With two edge rushers out there, you still need a spot for Bailey or West - those guys are too good to sit. So DT is the natural spot.

We got used to having massive Nose Tackies — Simmons, Omari Thomas, Kurrot Garland. But remember all those guys were recruited by Pruitt to play in a 3-4.

As I look at the SEC, every single lineman we have must weigh in at least at 300 lbs on both sides of the ball. Ideally between 310-320, as long as they can move. We line up four, that’s at least 1200 lbs. to deal with. Line up five, it’s at least 1500 lbs to beat.

I firmly believe this is still a LOS league.

Seems like that’d be really slow

Everything is urgent when Georgia is Game 3.

There has never been a team in football that runs a 4 or 5 man front with all 300+ pounders. You can run a 3 man front like that, but that’s it.

It will be fun to watch. I think we have a pretty good core with Eason and Moi. Both are good athletes that are fundamentally sound. Eason has gotten better each year. I love watching him play. He was the best technician of the group last year. Just has to play a little faster and he could be all-sec. I could see Bailey sliding inside and being a good rusher. I think this group is better than last year. We had some good guys but they were very limited. This group is more versatile.

Papa loves the older guys that stick around and take his coaching. Therefore, Wallace will prob be in the top 4 while Hobbs is out.

Word is he loves Utley, but I'll believe his playing time when I see it.

Keep in mind, the SDE guys will almost always slide inside on passing downs, so depth at DT isn't huge for this team.

Intel says Utley is first up among EE freshmen. Wallace is the next guy. We’ll be fine until Hobbs comes back. Worst case is Tyre West or Bailey can move inside if absolutely necessary.

Edge rushers aren't going to be close to 300 lbs. You won't get very many sacks with all 300lb D-linemen.

This article doesn't even mention Bailey and West being able to slide inside to help spell the starting DTs for a few reps. We have several guys who can play inside. It was just a few yrs ago that we played the whole season with only 3 dudes playing at DT; that was far from optimal, but we are well beyond that now.
