What DT prospects do we have a legit shot for? Poona is a South Carolina favor. I hope UT can get him. We have a history of mega stud DTs from South Carolina that ended up playing pro ball. Mainly thanks to coach Dan Brooks back in the glory days.

What are UTs chances with Poona Ford and who else is likely to be a Vol at DT position?

Poona will be a vol. Hopefully after this weekend. As far as others. Mike Sawyers is one and others are possible Juco kids

I would like to see us get one of the VA players. There are like three top ten players in VA.

The last 2-3 pages of Poona's thread are full of some very good info on where we stand with him. You could always try looking there. (Just an FYI that it's not all muddied up with side talk at the moment).

Derek Barnett is still in play. Listed as a DE, but at 270 lbs his future is DT.

Yes the OP can find what he needs in the Poona thread. But in his defense, who else are we serious players for? I'm not being negative, I just don't see a ton of chatter about stud DT's. Plenty of DE's but we gotta have the big maulers in the middle. I'm more worried about quantity than anything. Don't get me wrong, I want 5*s....but give me 4 3* Dan Williams and call it a day. We need #s

Let's focus on Poona. He is who we need. Once he is in the fold, then get one more. If you take two a class, that's all you need since some DE's grow into DT's if there is too much attrition. The 4-3 gives more flexibility in terms of body types.

I know there was lots of chatter about Carr playing inside and out. Anyone think he'll end up inside fulltime?

I know there may not be a lot of chatter on here about them but you best believe the coaches are on them and we just aren't aware of who they are most likely. Just look at Joe Henderson for example. I don't think anyone knew we were about to pull a commitment from him and he's a great looking speed rusher. I think that probably the case with many Dlinemen.

We talk more on here about the skill position guys because the pay sites seem to give them more coverage (other than the very top ranked big guys). JMO though.

Good point. Henderson looks to be a manchild! It wouldn't shock me a bit for the staff to offer several no name guys....only to have them develop.

Not only Henderson, but take a guy like Corey Vereen. A 3* LB, who the coaches saw as a DE. 4 O/W game sacks later has me believing these dudes know what they are doing.

As for Carr, he's gonna be a star. Really no other way I can see it.

I agree, Jason is going to be a great player for us. And I'm really excited about Vereen as well. Looks like he will be a bad ass DE for us in a year or two. Great call by our coaches seeing the potential in him as a DE and going out and signing him. I'm actually very excited about the DE class we pulled in last year. I know that none of them are the high 4 or 5 star guys, nonetheless, they all look to have a lot of potential IMO. Week side DEs/pass rushers----Corey Vereen and Kendal Vickers; strong side DEs/edge setters----Jaylen Miller (also could potentially end up at DT down the road) and Malik Brown. Excited about all of these guys.

Poona is not a USCe favor. IIRC long ago he named USC his leader, and thats why the "experts" predicted him there. But IIRC he recently named UT his leader, OSU 2nd, USC is 3rd or 4th. Dont take all crystal ball predictions to heart. they always change them right before a player commits. most of his USC predictions are from USC homers, and they were made 2 months ago.

our defense was in dire need of speed last year so the easiest way to get that w/o waiting on several recruiting cycles is to move guys down, so would not surprise me at all to see Carr at full time DT - you have already seen them move Brewer from S to LB and Vereen from LB to DE and CM at least partially to DE

I think this trend will continue

Probably some names that are not on our radar. It is a long time until NSD and the roster is only half done.

I'm not sold that Ford is leaning towards UT. I still think that he picks USCe, but this is just my gut. I've not really read anything on him lately.

Does anyone know about Xavier Forrest. 6'3", 300lb 3* DT at Ensworth. While a 3* it doesn't look like he is getting much attention. Is it grades? As an instate kid at a position we need some help I thought he might get a look.
