Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, didn't see it.. Merge if necessary...

So, obviously the most glaring need this past season was DT.. I know we missed out on a few key guys down the stretch, but it looks like we'll be fairly solid.. IMO one of the primary keys will be whether Walls can come back at full strength and be a good contributor..

Also, will Miller move to DE, or will he stay @ DT? He did play DT primarily, right? Or maybe he'll play both depending on how things shake out w/ Ben Martin?

Does this sound about right?

1 - Malik, Couch
2 - Hughes, Walls
3 - Miller, Carson

Thoughts, opinions, corrections??

Miller played DE all year last year. If Jeffrey and Ayres can contribute they would actually make up the third pair in the three deep. Don't sleep on Saulsberry.

Given our current situation, I think DE is more an area of concern. Malike may have to move back over.

If Jeffrey and Walls can give solid minutes then it will be worlds better than last year. They can't really afford the injury bug to hit them though or they'll thin out quick. Seems like we've been having this same conversation for 3 or 4 years now.

I hope there are a few DT's in Tennessee next year, i've about given up any hope they can get the big names ones out of another state. They're highly coveted and those in- state schools put a lot of pressure and probably a little extra to keep them home.

So will Saulsberry play DT or DE? or just wherever there's the greatest need?

Forgot about Jeffrey & Ayers..

1 - Malik, Couch
2 - Hughes, Walls
3 - Ayers, Jeffery, Saulsberry

Hughes, Couch, and Carson are the only true DTs. The others converted from DE or LB. In my opinion, the staff is ruining a perfectly good DE in Malik with extra weight he shouldn't try to carry. Mo Couch is the man if he stays healthy.

UT also had the transfer from UCONN last year. His name was Keensen Chambers. I have no idea if he will pan out, but he certainly had the size.

Jeffrey and Walls are both true DTs IMO.

I think Jeffrey was a true DT. He had a injury that slowed him last year. I hope the kid can get to where he can help in the rotation.

Hughes has the potential....he just lacks the "want to".

Agreed, and he was battling injury. Montori made big plays for us last year. If he curves his attitude, and one of our other DTs step up, I could see Hughs Couch in the middle and maybe Jackson stepping outside.

Regardless, look for a strong rotation of Jackson Couch Hughs THIS (woot) coming season.

Walls grew into a DT. He is now a "true DT". If Jackson gains 20 lbs which is very reasonable then he will play at 290 plus. Either way he and Miller could switch back and forth.

Has anyone heard how Clark is developing? I know they brought him in as a project.

I don't think Walls was necessarily "by design". He just exploded after his senior year in highschool, from what I remember.

Auburn liked him @ DT out of HS but they were scared of grades. He has had a year in the s&c program too. If he has a mean streak, he could give some quality snaps.

Walls was LB. With the injury we haven't really seen yet if he has grown into a big time DT. Jeffery wasn't on the list, but yes, not sure about his upper body strength though.
