Dropped Passes?

Our whole section cheered last night when Hancock caught a pass. It was pretty funny. People were literally jumping up and down screaming because we got a first down. We started saying "Cheer when ya can! Cheer when ya can!!"

When it comes to the passing game, we have the total package for B-A-D. Crompton threw a couple of passes on slants/crossing routes that were so far behind the receivers they could barely get a hand on the ball when trying to turn back--including a big third-down pass late in the third quarter. When he is on target, the receivers drop the ball about 40 percent of the time. There there is the general miscommunication between our "field general" and the wideouts. I'm not sure who invented whiskey and reality tv, but i think they'd watched too much bad UT football in recent years. Man, let's be straight, we've been hideous for at least four years.

I don't know that it is miscommunication as much as the wideouts are losing faith in their qb. It's hard to concentrate on every route of every play when you have done it so many times before and the pass ends up a mile over your head or behind you on a crossing route. i'm not saying the wr aren't too blame, but they didn't lose talent all the sudden. coaches are going to have to fix this either by trying to keep them motivated or replacing the qb. i'm not one for hasty qb pulls but I think it has be done at this point.

Receiver play let you guys down Sat. night no doubt. I want to say there were 7-8 drops at least. Crompton did make some bad throws at times but the receivers have to catch the ball when it comes in their vicinity.

Even if the passes surprised the receivers these receivers should have caught the ball.Even the ones behind them, some where catchable, imo.

The O line passed blocked good, Crompton step up in the pocket and got rid of the ball. .

This is one of the problems I have with the way JC played early on. The OL that has had big problems with pass protection hardly let him get touched. He really didn't start taking advantage until late in the game.

I don't know why but JC seems to be playing nervous/scared.... like he's either afraid to get hit or else afraid to make mistakes. When they went hurry up, he didn't have so much time to think about it. Maybe that will help his confidence?

Or because the QB has lost faith in his WR's? It is a two way street... and it may be both.

FTR, every receiver has drops and every QB throws bad balls. If you let that keep you from doing your job on the next play then YOU have issues... not the guy that made the mistake. They have to be like a baseball pitcher... and have a one play memory.

it seems to me that if were not going to change qb's we need to change receivers because if they aren't in a need to catch situation they can't catch. so i say open our receiver position up for competition.
