Well said. There are a handful of teams with legit national title aspirations every year. I'm sure there are plenty of other teams who set their sights on winning a national title when in reality, they have no chance in hell.

I'm with you Pops. Others wanna make a bowl, win more games than they lose, just try to make their program better. Like you said, various goals and motivations for different players and programs.

Look, I get both sides of this debate. Humility and sportsmanship are great values. Heads down, one game at a time, let's just focus on what's in front of us...that all makes sense. It also makes sense to shoot for the stars, to have confidence in yourself and your teammates, to look as far as the eye can see and say, "I'm going there."

So both are valid, both can be right, depending on the team. It's a matter of what best fits THEM as a group, fits THEM to be in the right mental place to make the most of what they've got in front of them.

I trust Butch as a leader to know that. If they're all saying NC, then I think that's because he sees that as what they need.

Absolutely! And the best part is that they are teaching leadership to the players and it is PAYING OFF big time!:

Exactly, and besides, these guys are busting their @#$ everyday, and I mean really busting their tails! We've seen the workout videos! They are not doing this just to win the East. They think they can win it all. They know how close they were in three of the four games we lost! They know they had Florida, Oklahoma, and Alabama down in the fourth quarter! So, good for them, let's speak our mind, kick butt and take names!

This is true and I agree, BUT Im not sure we want to be elevating guys that go home and say, "Mom, look at me and how bad I lost that fight and got my axx beat!!!"

Step 1 as anyone works hard to accomplish goals is to BELIEVE as you continue to work harder every single day to ACHIEVE your goals.

buTch and all our players know very well that to accomplish their goal of a National Championship is a hard working step by step process.

You always give 100% effort and focus to get the WIN of the next game in front of you and proceed game by game and WIN by WIN.

They BELIEVE that they CAN get the WINS to become the SEC East Champions as they focus game by game.

They BELIEVE they can get the WIN to become the SEC Champions.

They BELIEVE they can WIN their 1st playoff game and advance to the National Championship game.

They BELIEVE they can WIN that National Championship game and bring the trophy back to Knoxville.

Our players now KNOW for a fact that they CAN play against any team in the country including 2 of last seasons playoff teams and 1 of which won the National Championship.

The is NOT any doubt in their minds that they could have and should have WON against Oklahoma, Florida and AlaBummer last season and that against arkansas they just ddn't even show up to play.

The players and coaches on our Team 120 KNOW what they CAN accomplish this season, there's now zero doubts in their hearts and minds.

That's why Sutton, AK and JRM passed up all the NFL $$$ and came back to be Leaders on this team to finish the rebuilding process and get our Tennessee footVol team back on the national radar as a Team to once again fear and respect.

They've watched and disected the Ok, Fl and bama games, seen the mistakes and learned how close they really were to the playoffs last year and learned from those few mistakes.

Team 120 is working extra hard now to get ready to live up to the hype and prove what they can and will do on the field this season.

Shoop and our new TE coach are already making big differences and we'll see that on the field.

Our coaches and players ARE now, finally, confident and know the step by step process to achieve their step by step goals 1 by 1.

They're humble but they're also confident and they BELIEVE and also KNOW without any doubts what Team 120 can and will achieve this season.

Winning a National Championship always takes a little luck but coaches and players also know you work hard to make your own luck as the season goes along.

I happen to also BELIEVE in what this Team can accomplish and I expect a great deal from this footVOl Team.

Building a Champion WIN by WIN...VFL...GBO!!!

Fade's one of the ones that also hates on Butch for not claiming a pre-season national title every year. "Setting up low expectations."

There's a certain segment here on VN that will always bag on everything. Generic coach-speech? "Youth"? "Temper expectations"? "We gonna' win it all"?

Crap on all of it because they are miserable and want everyone to be.
