Drew Richmond loses his black stripe

Drew Richmond is being counted upon to be in the rotation in 2016, he was a 4* after all and highy recruited.....Oline should be improved if a replacement for Kerbyson can be found.

I've never liked the black stripe thing. Things that set you apart from the rest of the team in a negative way don't build unity IMO. There's other ways to motivate a player than having him wear some type of symbol that tells everyone he's not an accepted member of the team.

I honestly do not understand the black stripe as a rite of passage for our team.

Not complaining, I literally mean that I do not understand it.

When I first heard of it, I thought it was a one-month deal...motivation to get "approved" by teammates during spring camp.

Then it lasted into fall camp. Then it lasted into the season. Now it looks like it may last through the post-season.

Truly just do not understand.

Would love to hear Butch (or whoever thought it up) explain how it works, what purpose it serves, how, etc.

Let's just put it this way, Kyler Murray over at Texas A&M wouldn't have lost his black strip this season.

I disagree. It's a good way to let new players know that true membership in the team is not automatic. Along with the benefits of team membership come responsibilities. It's a fairly benign way to make the point. If a player is so sensitive as to be distressed rather than motivated by his black stripe he definitely needs the lessons wearing it will bring.

Yep, same here. Motivation, too me, would be the addition of "T's" to my solid white helmet.

Is it working? If we don't understand how it works, or why, or what it is intended to accomplish, I'm not sure we can determine whether it is in fact accomplishing its intended goal(s).

Not complaining, just really, really curious about the thought processes behind the practice.

Well, how do you really expect for 30+ true freshmen and newcomers to stand out or make a name for themselves over the course of a month in camp? That should tell anyone why this is a year-long (maybe longer, who knows) process.

And the goals a program like this would accomplish probably aren't tangible or measurable. We're talking about a maturation process on 18-22yo guys, there's no status bar that features a percentage completed.

It's probably got a lot to do with making sure wide-eyed true freshmen aren't asking the LaMarcus Cokers and Janzen Jacksons of the team for guidance.

The fact everyone complains about our coach doing his job because they don't understand is beyond me!!!

Maybe the experience of FINALLY earning it opens their eyes to a different life for them. Maybe he cares enough to hold them to a higher standard no matter how long it takes.

Who am I fooling, this is the me me me, now now now, opinions opinions opinions generation.

Exactly right! He has been a part of this team for almost a year. I would not blame him if he did want to leave. This needs to end.
