If a player with eligibility remaining is drafted lower than he hoped to be.....does he still have the option to return to school and play? I know this isn't an option in basketball and football but for some reason I was thinking this was different for baseball...

Baseball is different because you don’t declare for draft. You can come back as long as you take nothing of value or sign contract.
You have any thoughts you are comfortable sharing about what we can expect .... post draft? In advance, "Thanks." Not really looking for specifics ... just general thoughts?
While we are at it ... what are your person 'expectations' for 2023 ... bettter/same/worse 'team' ... bettter/same/worse 'record' ... things you think 2023 team will do better this coming season.
Since you have an 'inside' man ... Eccl 3:7 :^))))))

I will start with the easier of the questions. I think we will be ranked 1 or 2 at start of 2023 season with what we have coming back. People say all the time but you are replacing possibly 8 of 9 fielders but not really. I think you will have several strong mature fielders coming back or coming in. I will not talk to specifics until after the draft and we know who is going and who is coming. I'm surprised we did not lose more in the portal just in case they are not drafted because of who we are bringing in. When you look at who is for sure coming back and the playing time they got the last year and for some two years, we should be fine. We will have tough competition for our fielding positions not just because of their defense but because of their bats. It will be like this year and someone will not be in the starting lineup hitting .400, I believe.
Draft thoughts:
I have been keeping up with the MLB draft since 2000 when I umpired and coached and against Adam Wainwright and Dustin McGowan. I've never gotten a feel for the draft. It has never made sense who gets drafts and where. Someone always throws a wrench in it. Guys get told one thing and then something totally different happens. I've seen guys who were told first round and were still sitting on their couch the next day waiting on a call. When you get to the bottom rounds, anything goes. You never know what they are thinking when it comes to drafting.
I think we will have some sneak in earlier than they think and we will have some hurt feelings. I think there are guys that think they will get drafted that will have to make a choice of whether they will come back or take $25,000 or less to live their dream. Some will go some will come back. Never know if one of the top guys on our list may not go where they want and come back. Remember all of the top guys have 2-3 years left so they have negotiating room. I think it will be interesting to watch next weekend.
Remember, it is not football or basketball and every guy who is eligible is in the draft. Some of these juco guys could get drafted and not show up or they could show up and fight for a position. The only one anyone has really mentioned is Backus but there are several juco guys supposed to come.
it will be interesting.
