Very true, plus I'm half drunk right now. I'm not one to usually start threads, let alone post in them. I should done a little more due diligence before creating this. Just pissed and disappointed in general about this whole situation. I guess it doesn't matter, because **** gets real Friday night.

One count of plagiarism can get you kicked out of school. It all depends on how hard the professor pushes for your expulsion.

I'm not trying to be contrary, but a professor has no say in whether or not a student should be dismissed from the university. He or she can recommend the university taking additional measures against a student (other than just failing the class) in the official notice, but after that, it is all up to the university. Also, I might add, it is rare as rare when a student gets dismissed for just one count of plagiarism, although you're technically right in your statement regarding one count of plagiarism.

Don't believe everything you read.

Bottom line is, DR is gone. The reasons don't matter. He's gone. Move on.

until his name is OFF the roster on the UT website -- I dont know what to think -- when Clear was dismissed his name was wiped off right away, however ... I do believe DP as the most reliable source on VN --

I apologize for creating this thread. I don't normally "break news", but Jack got the best of me tonight along with some Shiraz. I stupidly made a rush judgement on something I read on the interweb. I certainly don't contribute a lot to the board, but when i do I want it to be factual. My mistake.

So here is something I have always wondered about plagiarism. DR must have picked some popular writings to copy. I say this because for professors to catch it and to ring a bell then something must either blatantly scream there is no way these are Da'Ricks words or hey I remember this writing before. What do you all think? Also if I understand correctly, if he had just given credit to where he found his info it would have been fine right? I never went to college but have figured with the millions of students out there that lots of people are using other writers words. It must be whether a person honestly thinks someone is bright enough to write that stuff themselves.

The professor most likely thought his wording sounded fishy so they looked into it. And they have the resources these days to find just about anything if he paid for it online or copied it from somewhere without citing anything

There's a program/website that is available to check for plagiarism. I believe many colleges/universities provide it for their professors. You're right, plagiarism can be avoided with a proper citation.

Nope, but the knoxville news is pretty quick to jump on the rumor ship and report them as truths. Example when good ol lane left we had about three coaches named as head coach.
