I never saw where Miles officially turned us down....only rumored by a known UT hater (schmuck from yahoo)

Until Miles releases a statement, he is still in the running

From what I am seeing we are now down to four candidates for the job:

Brent Venables - Clemson DC
Chad Morris - SMU HC
Mel Tucker - Georgia DC
Kevin Steele - Auburn DC

Report: Tennessee met with multiple candidates over the weekend - Rocky Top Talk

Les Miles was a part of this list until a report came out that he was no longer a candidate.

Thoughts?

I'm honestly good with any of those guys other than Steele...read where he gets plays confused and was calling Carolina plays while at Clemson...doesn't have the mentality for being a HC imo

Still hopeful on Miles....

Looking like Fulmer doesn't want a successful proven HC anywhere near Tennessee though. Just someone who shouldn't be offered a SEC job yet that he can control everything on.

Would really explain why no contact with Tee

If that is really our list, then we got to go with Venables. He would be the best HC from that group IMO. I love his enthusiasm and the players do as well. Watch Clemson and see the chemistry that they have. It starts with those coaches!

Venables, in my opinion, is the equivalent of Kirby..
Georgia fans are freaking out at the thought of Mel Tucker coming to Tennessee.
I'd be fine with either.

The other two, I'd be pretty let down.

Venables and Tucker would be great hires
Steele is alright in my opinion, Baylor was 15 years ago and he has done great since
Not huge on Morris...still better than Schiano...

I fully expect Tucker but I think Morris and Venerables are better choices.

Tucker has SEC experience, has head coaching experience, and is a defensive guy. He checks off everything supposedly Fulmer is looking for. Meh, I guess I'm fine with that. I just wonder what assistants will be chomping at the bit to work for this guy?

I agree, preferred Petersen but each of these guys has a pretty good resume except Steele. I just don't see how you hire him at 59 after he bombed at Baylor. JMO
