Down To A Two Game Season

In pre-season, I predicted UT would go 9-3. Today, Tennessee is one yard and three botched FGs (couldn't make just one?)--from possibly finishing 10-2. UT has two big games remaining--at Ole Miss and at UK--that if they win-- will still confirm a great season at 8-4. Both teams are capable of beating the Vols, both at home and in bad need of a win. Miss and UK have played poorly and have also played well this season. Hoping for a sweep, but it won't be easy. I am chalking up this week and Vandy.

I am pretty convinced that Vandy will be the tougher game than UK.

Vandy played USCe close and kept it close vs. GaTech for a half. UK blows.

We keep playing like we have these past few weeks and they are all wins.
Kiffin cant start off his tenure with a loss to Kentucky.. that would be just wrong.

Idk man, I am always wary of Vanderbilt. No matter how bad they are, they almost always play us close. And stranger things have happened. The chances of a win are very good because we usually win close. But playing them just makes me kind of uneasy

That rings true to home for me. That could have been written by myself.................with more flair.:)

I've seen them get close more than once. Not every game, but more often than not

UK beat Auburn and played USCjr closer than Vandy did. But we'll still beat both of them.

Ole Miss is still dangerous because of their talent level and Nutt's track record as an underdog, but that Auburn loss may have well and truly shattered any confidence they had left. If we jump on them early, it will be over.

Must be. It usually isn't close, and never should be.

They went 3 years in a row without even scoring a single point against some pretty average Tennessee teams...02-04 I think.

Take the average final score of the last 20 Tennessee-Vanderbilt games and tell me how that indicates the contests are usually close.

UK doesnt have a chance against us; Ole miss is the only game that worries me!

They would play us close at times because the Skoal Patrol wouldn't motivate them and let them play down to the level of competition...The only game on the schedule that is even kind of worrysome is Ole Miss...That game will be tough because its down there, we can win that game but being down there you just never know...With this staff, we haven't got to worry about playing down to the competition and not being motivated....I like how Kiffin makes every game sound like its the biggest game of the season because at this point they all are big

if you look back over the Fulmer era, we played down to any competition that we came into the game overlooking. I think the UCLA game was carry-over from that mentality. This Memphis game will be a good judge of whether that has changed or not. If we blow them out, Ole Miss will be the only potential challenge. If it is competitive, we need to wait before we chalk up any more wins. How would UK or VU do against UCLA? Before you blow me up, i know Crompton is 1000x better now than in that game.
My hope is that with Kiffin we destroy Vandy and Memphis and get rid of the perception that they play us well. If we beat Vandy by 30 every year, we'd have an easier time locking down the state. I'm not sure that a big W against UM is worth anything.

We are Down to a FOUR GAME SEASON. We have to win out convincingly to rebuild our program with recruiting and a New Years Day Bowl would make a statement to recruits. It starts with Memphis. In college football, you don't look past no one. We are not good enough to just show up. USC loses a game every year to a nobody with this threads mentality. The FIRST GAME IS MEMPHIS. BEAT THEM FIRST, THEN LOOK WHO'S NEXT.

Didn't say anything about just showing up. CLK won't allow that. Memp and Vandy are wins, forget about it. The other two are most important for recruiting--to finish at 8-4 with a good bowl. Beating Memphis and Vandy by 20 will have no impact on recruiting. We are supposed to do that. We don't recruit against Memphis and Vandy anyway. We ARE after an Ole Miss commit.
The next game thing is for coaches and players--I am neither. Chalk em up.

there is no reason why we shouldnt go 8-4, i have said that since the pre-season.. this team is that good and ole miss hasnt really shown me nothing to be scared of. kiffin will pull a 8-4 season off this year

If you average the margin of victory in the past 20 years, we beat them by about 20 points. However, Vandy has played us close several times in the last 20 years.

2008 - 20-10
2007 - 25-24
2005 - L 24-28
2004 - 38-33
2000 - 28-26
1997 - 17-10
1996 - 14-7
1995 - 12-7
1992 - 29-25
1989 - 17-10

That's 10 close games in the last 20 years. So about every other year, Vandy played us close.

I agree. Look at the Ole Miss vs Fla game last year.
Ole Miss snuck(sounds more Tn than sneaked) up on the mighty Gators in the Swamp

One Game at a time.

I wouldn't consider 2008 a close game. We were up 20-0 at halftime and that 20-10 final is as close as Vandy ever got in that game. Plus, their only TD was on a pick-6 off of The Quitter.

Wrong on Recruiting. West Tennessee is a major area of recruiting that we have suffer in. Memphis and Ole Miss recruit heavily in West Tennessee. We need to send a message to those athletes in west Tennessee this week and next. Vandy is a state pride thing, you don't lose to Vandy or Memphis and you make statements on who the big dog is in the state. GO VOLS:clapping:
