One of my friends called a few mins ago saying Dougherty was on fire. They're going to talk about it on WVLT in just a second...

I wonder if this means I won't have that exam there on Monday. :whistling:

Looks like it was in the engine lab... didn't really look like it did TOO much damage.

Actually, there was a lot of damage. I had a chemistry in the one right beside of it and before hand it was pretty bad. Said the first and second floor was damaged pretty good and snoke/water on others. It's going to be closed all next week. So, rweemyss, im guessing it is canceled.lol

:) WOOOO! Unless Dr. Nguyen e-mails me with a new building and room in which to take the exam, it won't happen until the week AFTER Thanksgiving. :) That said, his office is in Dougherty and it would be silly of him to come to work next week since he is on Administrative leave.

I also heard tonight that it was Dr. Irick that was in the engine lab when the fire started. He used all 4 fire extinguishers that are in the lab but was unable to kill the fire. My assumption is that it was a battery (chemical) fire as he was running engine tests on the dyno and he is very involved with the hybrid projects... He and his grad assistant did their best, but there was nothing that could be done to stop the fire.

Fire extenguishers are very ineffective at putting out chemical fires... it could have been oil related, too, if it involved engines. If only I were lucky enough to have class in that building, or at UT all together... Good luck on your quiz whenever you take it rwemyss.

Thanks! We still think it was a battery fire. The fuel tanks are on the other side of the building, and I am sure there is a fuel cutoff for safety.

My exam will now be the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. :)

Again I say... Dr. Irick works a lot on hybrid vehicles. It is most likely that the battery pack of the vehicle caught on fire.
