Doug Matthews completely shredded the coaches and a RB debate ensued

Neither is after stats. If Peyton or Brady sees that his team can run at will they are going to hand the ball off to Addai or Maroney all day.

I am not rehashing this argument and I will not speak any more of it, in fact I'm pretty sure kpt only brought it up as a joke because of all of our previous battles, but my biggest beef with Manning is I don't think he realized that until very recently.

my problem with Foster is that I don't believe that there have any real repercussions for the fumbles, aside from public opinion.

Coughlin and Tiki have now proven a way for guys with fumbleitis to address the issue, but he still swings that thing around several feet from his body. I don't get that.

There were no repercussions for Chris Hannon giving up on any pass that was moderately difficult, Jon Hefney tackling with his hands behind his back, or Parys Haralson accumulating about 15,000 unnecessary personal fouls.

I think it's pretty tough to say that the guy wasn't playing with winning as his ultimate objective. He wasn't calling the plays in Knoxville and generally hasn't in Indianapolis. I think both of those teams (until recently) needed him to be a stat machine in order to be competitive.

The guy checks off to run now probably more than pass.

I've said it here a ton that I think all of our problems in the program boil down to accountability. Phil is accountable to nobody and has never held players accountable.

In my experience, the bench was an enormous motivator and coaches used it a lot. Our guys don't seem to find the pine very often.

IMO because of Manning's understanding of the game, he will take what the defense gives him. If that means run the ball or pass, he will go with what has the best chance of working. He's too smart not to. Now if we could just convince Clawson to do the same.

Wait, you didn't mention Obama.

Then why did it look so good when Hardesty got the ball? Foster has the slowest first step of any back I've ever seen. Our OL was fine on Monday. They were getting a decent push in run blocking. They were even giving Crompton quite a bit of time in the passing game. Crompton will never be an NFL QB because he can't make decisions fast enough to not have the DL in his face. The OL is only supposed to give you until 3 and then it's on the QB to get rid of the ball. Crompton was waiting untl 5 to get rid of it.

But again your looking at it from the O-line point of view. What about those extra 2 seconds for the recievers to break off routes that are not open and can become open.. A d-back can only cover a guy for a split second unless its a fly route. So if the O-Line can hold up for 2 more seconds then a big play is very possible. But sometimes your right its 3 step drop and throw.

He's talking about how basic the offense was that UCLA was playing. He says if Chavis and the defensive staff cant adjust to that, that when we play Florida we are in trouble.

Don't you think, after one game, that you're being a little short-sighted and rushing to a conclusion?

I'm reserving my partial opinion of Clawson's offense until after the Auburn (after what is supposed to be 2 full games of competition) and my final full opinion after the season.

After one game, which I'm sure he was probably assured would be a win because surely an offense with all benchers wouldn't win, he hasn't shown everything. Well, I'm hoping, and that definitely goes for Crompton too.

Ha. you're short changing that.

New offensive Coordinator with a new QB is probably far less complicated and effective than UF's, of all teams, with Saint Tebow leading the way... especially if Harvin is close to healthy.

If he couldn't see we were running at will on UCLA, and had them worn out in the 2nd quarter, he's an idiot.

If he indeed didn't "show" all of his offense and took the loss to UCLA for it, he's a bigger idiot.

I'm not ready to run Clawson out of town, but damn, he doesn't appear to be Mensa material. Let's see, we are running them into the ground, our QB is throwing to the blimp driver and worms, so let's abandon the run and throw it 40+. That's scary.

Hardesty runs hard every down, he runs north and south. Foster is a scat back who you hardly ever see run hard every down and wants to get to the sideline as fast as he can.

Huh? Foster's a scat back? Foster is a physical back that lives to stiff arm the piss out of DB's. Perhaps you have him confused with Coker.

Look at the change in Ainge in one game after Cutcliffe took over for Sanders. You think Crompton would have played as poorly against UCLA if Cutcliffe had been his QB coach? I don't.

One thing that stood out after the UCLA game, and that is that Clawson had not done a good job coaching Crompton. Clawson had worked with Crompton the entire spring and fall practice. If anything Crompton, looked better as a sophomore then he did as a Junior. IMO that is a bad sign.

very good point. Those little Lombardi Trophy thingies are just an afterthought to the Pats current crew.

Obviously the Pats are a great team but you can't deny the fact that they were purposefully running up the score on opponents to make a point after Spygate. They even admit it! Manning did his damage in quarters 1 through 3 for most of the year and sat for almost the entirety of the last 2 games of the season. Marino threw 48 in 2 fewer games and with completely different pass interfence rules.

I was just saying i liked the fact that it took peyton 150 less pass attempts to do almost the same thing. The patriots scheme is entirely different, as was the competition they played against and beat up on. But this isn't the place for that debate.. both amazing quarterbacks, I'm a Manning fan.

I agree. Both are great. I can't fault Brady for playing for a bitter coach who got caught cheating(not that they even needed to). I do feel like Manning's accomplishment is more impressive than Brady's but still not as impressive as Marino's. I still feel like Manning is the better QB, though. Marino had to play when pass interfence was called differently but defenses also weren't as adept at defending that style of passing attack at that time.

You're right that it would be nice but you have to take what the D gives you and adjust to it. Our OL was not able to get that extra 2 seconds because of the quality of UCLA's DL. We didn't take what the D was giving us. We tried to force things that weren't there instead of playing to our strengths. With a decent QB and more effective playcalling our OL was giving us plenty of time to run our offense.

I think Crompton is just a slow learner. There doesn't appear to be a lot going on in his head when you look at him. He always has that blank, idiot start. I'm afraid that we have a QB who is all physical ability and nothing between the ear holes. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I want to remain hopeful but I've seen Chavis do the same STUPID, STINKING thing with the soft coverage so many times that it is hard to think he'll change.

If it is Fulmer's call or Chavis'... then they need to change or be changed. If anyone has the ear of either man... IT DOES NOT WORK. It didn't work against UK or USC last year. It didn't really work against Cal the year before. If they'd had another 8 minutes or had made the right halftime adjustment, that would have been a real game.

UCLA basically lived off of a 5 yard hook by the TE and Chavis couldn't figure out that he needed to line up an LB over the guy?
"Soft coverage" is also called the "prevent defense." I have never ever felt it to be wise strategy if the opponent is anywhere remotely within striking distance. All too often the only thing it prevents is a win for the team that resorts to it!!! Think about about it!! That stands as the case in both the pros and college.

Oh God this game hurt, and I still suffer from the heart ache and emotional strain...

I'm listening to matthews this morning as I sit here (watching the Tebow workout on College Gameday did not appeal to me) and I did not hear him or Barnhart rip on anyone.

I felt so good going into this season as far as the team's prospects and Crompton were concerned, especially remembering his gutsy performance last year against LSU. Hey, my thinking went, how could he not shine like a gold nugget considering the vaunted, experienced and much hyped offensive line in front of him. I had even entertained again surprising the world with a repeat of 1998 this season because of how loaded we are at DB coupled with our OL and a matured Crompton.

Now? Now I feel like I did that Christmas when 15 years old expecting a real archery set for deer hunting, but got instead one of those rubber tipped
play Indian sets complete with the feathered head ornament. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Then and Now!!! :cray:
