He just lost to Ohio St., Iowa and Florida St.

Who loses to Iowa? They are worse than Mizzu.

We have not hit out ceiling with Butch.

Think of Harbaugh's loss to Iowa as the $5 million dollar difference in pay for that one game the poster was willing to shell out over CBJ's 9-4 year. Yes the same Iowa we destroyed the last time we met them.

I'd be okay with $9 million for 10-3 last year if the 3 were Bama 2x and a nailbiter in the Sugar Bowl.

Me2, but you know two of those losses would include Vandy & USCe, right? LOL I'd still make that deal, lots of people on VN would not though and want Harbaugh's head on a platter. Harbaugh inherited a ton of talent at UM by the way vs CBJ, not so much.

Is it such a horrible thing for us to have 5 solid candidates for AD?

Blackburn
Fulmer
Davis
Battle
Manning

None of them could be the Home Run hire, but none I them would be a total bust either.

Release the Beast!

Battle??
I'll bet everything I own that it won't be Battle. I'm sure he still remembers his time in Knoxville quite well. He stepped in to fill-in when Mal Moore passed away. Just temporary.

This should have been the easiest hire in the history of college athletics. You have a VFL just down the road in Chattanooga who loves Tennessee and has the track record to prove he knows what he's doing.

But instead the good Ole boy network is in full play doing stupid s***. I love Coach Fulmer and believe he's a great man, but he shouldn't even be in the discussion.

David Blackburn should have already been hired. I'm to the point of almost hoping he says no if they do ask just so the azz hats have egg on their face.

Ridiculous.
This here, this right here cant get enough likes..

I would be willing to bet that 99% of this message board had never heard the name David Blackburn prior to this hire. Now if he isn't hired this board is screaming bloody murder and ready to lynch someone. Maybe he's the right one for the job, maybe he's not. But I highly doubt most on this message board have any clue at all who it should be. Pretty typical for this fickle bunch.

Well count me in as part of the 1%, I have been a fan long enough to remember him well. GBO!!!!

I would take Harbaugh over Butch. He's a better football coach.

don't forget Butch lost to Vandy.

But you don't have the checkbook.

Comparing some important stats:

$9,000,000 / $4,000,000 = 2.25 (CJH / CBJ)

10-3 vs 9-4 ≠ 2.25 (MI record 2016 vs UT's 2016)

$2,715.20 / $1,909.08 = 1.42 (MI per capita tax revenue / TN's)

Cost of living:
Ann Arbor is 40.2% more expensive than Knoxville.
Ann Arbor housing costs are 93.0% more than Knoxville housing costs.

Climate:
Ann Arbor has 7.3% more rainy days and 13.6% less Sunny Days than Knoxville.

Knoxville / Ann Arbor
Snowfall (in.) 6 / 57.3
Sunny Days 204 / 178
Avg. Jan. Low 27.2 / 17.1

IMO, IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER!

And the same reason the Browns suck. One Haslam is good at ruining football teams and the other Haslam is good at ruining education.

the only time I can remember the Browns NOT being bad was in the early sixties....just sayin'

The Bernie Kosar and Marty Schottenheimer years wern't too shabby in the 80's. The back to back AFC Championship games were fantastic. Cleveland shouldn't have fired him.

That is just silly, he wants a football "man" in place instead of just an administrator with business experience. Y'all act as if coaches have never been administrators, some of the best administrators are ex coaches like Doug Dickie, Mal Moore, Tom Osborne, Terry Don Phillips, Barry Alverez, Chris Hill, Ron Mason, etc. etc.

Agreed. Bill Battle Coached at Tennessee and has gone on to have tremendous success at Alabama as AD. Why can't we expect similar results?

Bama's Athletic Dept is basically on auto pilot as long as Saban is rolling money in by the shiploads. They have some sick number in reserve and can do basically anything and everything they want to do. if they want to hire Art Briles as a consultant for a couple mil, they can. In contrast, Hell would be raised by numerous groups in Tennessee if Art was seen filling up his gas tank at a Pilot store in Crossville.

Bama likes to win in other sports but Basketball has zero following unless they are winning. All of their sports have as much money now as they need. All because of Lil Nicky.

With the implementation of the SEC network, no SEC program is short on cash anymore. Leadership matters and money can't fix everything. Sure Bama has a fantastic coach but I believe completely that any SEC is capable of shelling out 6 to 7 mil for a HC if they make it a priority. The problem is that paying money doesn't guarantee you a great coach. It goes a very very long way to improving your chances of getting a great one but it's no guarantee. You still have to have a leader in the AD office that knows what the hell they are doing and can recognize a top notch immediate impact coach and not just get a budget coach because you don't want to spend the money or worse yet overpay for a MAC coach and waste even more money. It's about figuring how to get the most value for the money not just about the money.

Given what Bama is right now, I think we'd be okay with a coach who could get us to the championship game instead of tripping on his dingaling at Columbia and West End.
