Doug Matthews Blunt Take On Vols Loss

I don’t want to hear these stories about Fulmer playing chess behind the scenes. If this experiment fails it’s on Fulmer and he needs to be held accountable as well.

Do you believe saying this one more time will make things better?

Nope don’t feel any better about a football team that has clearly checked out on their coach. A leader who can’t make hard decisions until after he’s experienced the most embarrassing loss in University history.

The point was, you are not saying anything everyone on this forum does not know. Maybe you just enjoy kicking others when they are down.

I think Chaney is a good contingency to step in as needed. He's done it before.
I was thinking the same thing. I still want Pruitt to do it, but for entertainment’s sake, who becomes DC?

I mean, it's definitely not my favorite scenario, or even in my top 30. However, promoting Tee to HC, keeping Chaney as OC, and bringing back Chief seems exactly like what Fulmer would do. And while I don't think it's the long term answer by any means, couldn't be much worse than what we're doing now
Chavis isn’t coming back. It’s time to let the 90s go.

I wasn't watching a paragon of intellect on display during the Georgia State game.

I'll put it to you this way: your namesake would never have hired him and would never have made the myriad of excuses you are making for him now.

I think Neyland would recognize the state of the program and thank anyone who agreed to deliver tough medicine.

I did six turnarounds in my career. The most important thing to do is get rid of anyone not committed to the plan. From my seat, I think he’s doing what’s right.

Too many fans are happy beating second rate teams and getting blown out by conference peers. Time to do a complete rebuild. IMO.

He did recognize the condition of the program in the mid-1950s and ran off a coach performing at Pruitt's level after two years. It doesn't take four years to figure out your mistakes and move to correct them.

As for the present condition of the Tennessee program under the direction of Bill Battle v.2, where was this "tough medicine" in the off-season and pre-season when our head coach was responsible for preparing our players for the first game of the year?

The games are won and lost in the weight room, at the film room, and on the practice field in the period leading up to the season. It is at that point that you should be able to differentiate between those who are committed and those who are not buying in to what you are doing. If you've waited until the season starts to confront those players, then you have waited too long.

If you are being dominated by the worst this level of football has to offer, then I would suggest you aren't go to do very well against your conference peers either.

If you can't prepare a team to take on second rate teams, then how in the world will you ever be able to field a team that can compete in the SEC?

Should we have beat GState? Yes. But I’m not calling for Pruitt to be fired. ESP when over 2/3 of the team are F and So.

Problem is you are giving Pruitt credit for doing something in September (the removal of the less-than-committed) that he and his staff should've been doing far earlier.

Those guys didn't become cancers to the team all of the sudden. They were known problems who should have been dealt with when their issues with being Tennessee players became apparent.

This is the sort of thing that happens when you hire a guy who doesn't know how to manage and direct a football program.

The problem is I support a coach who has decades of experience. If he gets rid of everyone, who are they supposed to scrimmage against?

Pruitt pissed the team off late last year and its started out the same this season. As much as I wanted Pruitt to be successful, I'm not sure he knows how to be a head coach.
OK, just how did CJP do that? Inquiring minds want to know.

Dont beleive CF is considering a change at this point.....i think he is solely thinking about fixing what we have.

Problem is now your not going to get a quality coach to come even if you do make a change.

This is a process....unfortunatley its going to take time. We have a new coach with a new staff.....take a deep breath and give them time. Other than Saban, there is not another program out there that changes staffs on a regular basis and is consistently successful.

It’s hard to take, but I am resigned to the fact that we are 3-4 years away from contending for the East.
