Doug Matthews Big Orange Sunday

Matthews is leaving out a very important piece of information. If Ed Orgeron is, in fact, the biggest scumbag in coaching, that's only because nobody has been stupid enough to give Dumbarse Doug a job in over 20 years now.

Some of you need to ask and answer this question before you weigh much relevance in to what Coach Matthews is saying...

"What has Doug Matthews done 'directly' for the University of Tennessee football program in the last 10 years?"

Keep Fulmer supplied with doughnuts?:)

say whay you want about DM, but he is a good man. Who was very respectful to CLK and company, till recently.
Yes he was a loyalist to CPF, but they were very good friends. He also mentions CPF let it slip in his final years.
For us mid tn vols he is prolly the best voice we have. Climer and King seem to enjoy pointing out negatives more than anything else.
I am very appreciative of what he does for the school and the program and was very proud to see him call CLK a punk at least 100 times today

I'll say you have incredibly low standards as to what constitutes "great."

Alright, I'll bite. What is your opinion of Doug? I do not remember much about him at UT. I know you like Biddle/King, but that cannot be why you hate Doug.

i never said great.
The few times i met the man he was nice to me and nice to my kids. I was too young to remember much of what he did as a coach.
So until you can say or prove him to be something else than a decent guy. I really dont care what you think is great.
Or you could think great = getting on a message board and being a know-it-all Vol. Cause we dont have enough of those. You are one of a kind.

If Jaq was recruited by Fulmer.....maybe we need to enlist his help to bring Jaq back....

just sayin....

DM does have a noticeable slant to Fulmer, but so what, Good, bad indifferent Fulmer is and always has been all Orange. I enjoy listening to DM as he has class and is traditionally minded in his outlook. Too many on here just look to slam PF get over it he is a fine part of UT history and tradition. Now lets get behind our new coach, Go Vols

Why would you think I like Joe Biddle or Bill King? I have no use for either of them. Matthews is a guy still bitter that nobody would or will hire him because the only reason he survived as long as he did at UT was he would occasionally pick up Majors' bar tab.

Doug obviously pointed this out because he loves PF. Who in their right mind would not recruit J. Smith? Potential phenomenal instate talent, 1 hour away from Knoxville. Typical I love every ounce of the jelly man statement.

Is it not you that calls in every day? I have always found you pretty entertaining even when I do not agree with you. You'd actually make a pretty good talk show guy yourself.

I've never called a sports talk show in my life.

Doug is an "inner circle" good ole boy. He thinks that PF's shat don't stink.

I don't know if too many of you guys/gals are old enough to recall this or not but Doug and Phil were both assistants under Johnny Majors, as they even shared an office together. They were really good friends too. Well, Johnny fired Doug, and he never returned to coaching; A few years later, Phil got Johnny fired before Johnny got him, and to this day Johnny refuses to even mention Phil by name. Phil went on to be the HC, and Johnny went to Pitt.

The point is if you think Doug is going to say something negative about his old friend Phil Fulmer then you are listening to the wrong show as it aint gonna happen.

Don't really care to hear him bash Phil, just quit talking about him. We're in the Dooley era and he was still butt hurt over PF getting fired. Nothing relevant on the show pertaining to what is going on right now.

A couple of things.

Doug left coaching on his own.

I believe he has stated in the past that Fulmer is not qualified to be the AD and was cold on the Cut idea.

He oviously has a bone to pick with Hammy but has anyone actually heard him campaign PF for AD in that last week? Having a close personal relationship with Phil and the fact that he needs him for his show I think he has done a credible job of not blantantly tooting Phil's horn.

Not sure how he is regarded in K-Town but in Nashville he is very highly respected.

I listen to Doug Matthews regularly on 104.5 The Zone. He has stated often that he has no problem with Hamilton firing Fulmer. He thinks there should have been a change. This morning was the first time he even talked bad about (insert his name here).

Doug sorry you lost.

Darth Maul and Phillip Vader...the big donut death star exploded.

Mike Hamilton triumphed.

For those complaining about the baseball team...really? Really? Baseball? Nice facilities and Todd Helton...ETSU was better than us during lots of the Rod Delmonico years. I always despised the man because I knew a girl who was pretty messed up by the divorce of her parents thanks to that slimeball...

Obviously, you do not know DM as good as you claim. He chose not to stay in coaching after UT. He had options for coaching after UT, but was ready to get out of coaching. He owns a sporting goods operation in Franklin, TN.

If Doug wants to give his thoughts on the way UT should be run he needs to have a blog, not a call in show where he takes 6 calls in 2 hours. I want to hear about the future, not be reminded of why we had to start walkons this year thanks to his buddy.

If he can pull this out....man, we need to give him a chance to make it work.....

Wasn't complaining but now that you mention it, Raleigh was a terrible hire. He is well liked by no one but Hamilton. Delmonico is not the point. That's like people questioning the Jerry Green hire and you responding well Wade Houston wasn't well liked.

I will not pretend I know much at all about baseball.

I wish we were awesome, but if we were getting to the CWS every year, it would be the equivalent to me in terms of orange pride of kicking an extra field goal against a non con opponent.

We do not have wrestling or gymnastics and we are not winning the directors cup anytime in the next 100 years over Stanford and people who win wiffle ball and 30 other sports I do not care about.
