I have some concerns about the way Martin looked last night. Is he the best we have at DB on that side? He seems more concerned about the receiver than he is at hawking the ball when it's in the air. Are they taught to play the receiver with their back to the qb the whole route?

Not really earth shattering insight there. But agree it's a good show with interesting info. Teams that create turnovers and don't get penalize usually win. Wow.

yeah, right...even Coach Debord probably would agree with that...

It always amazes me the college DBs cannot get this football fundamental in their heads: when the receiver turns and starts looking for the ball, YOU need to do the same thing. But they seldom do it. You can't make a play on the ball if you do not see the ball coming.

Our play-calling is so weak. I mean, as the OP said: we do NOTHING to put a defense on its heels--no misdirection, no pump fakes, very few two back sets that would give a defense more to think about with Kamara and Hurd in the game, no quick slants. DeBord is 15 years behind the curve. Forget individual talent and execution: VT's plays were simply far more creative than ours--and the same was true in the AppState game. We have better athletes and rely on them to make plays individually--see Dobbs--but our schemes are bad. We basically play old-school: we're going to run Hurd a lot and throw in some QB runs and swing passes to Kamara and see if you can stop us. Fulmer would be proud--1960s football! We are going to win a lot of games but we're not going to beat bama and florida with this offense.

I'm not going to be too hard on him. The tech TE was a mismatch for anyone. The guy was 6'7" and was a load. He'll be playing on Sunday's soon.

I thought Herbstreit made a good point about our defense early in the game. Didn't understand why you play soft coverage on the outside when your bringing a corner or nickel on a blitz. VT had easy throws on quick slants when we brought that kind of pressure

Just a smoke screen. Hiding all the good stuff for UF.

Whether we create the turnovers or not, when the ball is on the ground the other team better get out of our way or they might get hurt, cause we are going after it like a mack truck. no way Hurd should have recovered the ball in the end zone in the first game. and Shy Tuttle last night, wow is all I can say. Glad to have him back.

Exactly this. Love it.
