Best show around when it comes to honest and practical discussion of the team and games. Very insightful. He comes from a coaching and student of the game approach and not just a talking head. He and Kippy are great discussing things honestly. Both of them have legitimate concerns

Kippy Brown is saying now we have to throw quicker passes. More Slants with 3 step drops.

Kippy thinks Dobb's can play on Sunday as QB. Says Dobbs has what it takes. Oline is not giving him enough protection.

Without the Penalties and TOs, we may have lost this game.

Lilly is right. It would get Dobbs in a rhythm and make teams thinks about blitzing. We need to make the Middle of the field 10 yards down something to other team has to cover.

Not really earth shattering insight there. But agree it's a good show with interesting info. Teams that create turnovers and don't get penalize usually win. Wow.

Oline has to play better.

Can't believe we started the same Oline as first game.

Simplify Pass Offense and not throw over middle.

Have to tackle much better. Tackling was bad.

Need to get off blocks better on the outside.

Need to have Kamara and Hurd in together more often.

Malone, Jennings, and Wolf need to be in most.

Better get some more deep passes down field.

Need to be nastier on the field. (Like Jack Jones.)

Move the pocket for Dobbs with Bootlegs.

Oline cannot protect inside.

Kirkland's injury is the number one thing coming out of this game? Does not see a competent backup. Did not see any ice packs on ankle which may be a good sign.

Punt coverage much better.

Ball security better.

Need better contain and set the edge on Defense. Getting better.

Big Pluses:

OBrien and Vickers playing very well.

Alexis Johnson will be coming in more.

Kongbo and Barnett playing inside some.

DEs played well. Good depth.

Sutton, Martin, and Mosley getting better.

DBs looking better.

Abernathy playing well.

Young players are getting better.

Mathews is the most knowledgeable about the program from an insider standpoint. He's in the know and a true insider. He predicted the redshirt of Curt Maggitt months before it happened. Everyone thought he was crazy. He has inside knowledge more than any other person on radio and it's not even close.

Seems to be excited about our D line potential with Tuttle getting back...

Vickers and O'Brien playing extremely well. Kongbo and Barnett playing inside on 3rd downs..

Abernathy set a school record with 3 fumble recoveries last night..

On defense, our outside contain was TERRIBLE in the first quarter and a half. We were getting gashed repeatedly. And, yes, the tackling was BAD. But our DL asserted itself as the game went on.

On offense, it doesn't take a genius to recognize that having Hurd AND Kamara in the game gives a defense a lot more to think about. If Hurd is in the game, we are running inside about 80 percent of the time; if Kamara, the ball is going outside. Our play-calling is utterly dull and utterly predictable.

Mathews makes a good point about inside pass protection. If your centers or guards are getting beat and defenders are coming up the middle, you have no time and can't step up in the pocket. P. Williams is a tall, athletic guy with big hands. Why would you NOT make quick drops and get him the ball? Same with the TE? Mix things up, DeBord. Bama will destroy this offense--and probably florida too. It is only individual talent that makes it happen for us--certainly not scheme or play-calling.

UTs offense is its own worst enemy.
All this clapping and having the Oline hold its stance. Then, they are not using motion in ways to create space. The routes are very vanilla, and don't create separation.

Dobbs doesn't pump fake. Those routes in flat for Kamara, Dobbs should be pumping down field before he throws to the flat. Instead he is immediately looking to Kamara who is swarmed, in one case before the ball even gets there. They ought to fake those routes on occassion and then dump in middle to TE as the safeties are collapsing hard because they don't even disquise and telegraph intention. A senior QB ought to be able to help his Oline by making right checks, hitting hot routes.
A lot of the Oline issues are schematic. I saw many Olinemen retreating at the snap, instead of firing into a defender.

I know. Was talking about the initial posts. And tired of so many posters downplaying the turnover aspect of the win. Good teams and d's create them. Matthews is good like I posted the first time.

This is the biggest problem. Oline blocking scheme does not work. Need to fire off the ball. Forget the standing on their hills and trying to direct traffic.

Almost every time they put Kamara in VT knew to key on him because he was going to get the ball.

Our Defense caused two of the five turnovers. We got lucky. VT also beat themselves with penalties. Again we got lucky. Need to get a lot better before the Florida game. Be less predictable on offense and block a lot better or they will be in our backfield all day and all night.

Doug just said he hasn't heard. He said he thought it was a good sign that the ankle wasn't wrapped in ice when he left the field..

Not sure if this is a good sign for DKJ or a bad sign for our trainers not having ice on it. if they are going for X-rays, It should have Ice.

Whether we create the turnovers or not, when the ball is on the ground the other team better get out of our way or they might get hurt, cause we are going after it like a mack truck. no way Hurd should have recovered the ball in the end zone in the first game. and Shy Tuttle last night, wow is all I can say. Glad to have him back.

I agree with kippy to some degree. The oline play is terrible, however, dobbs doesn't do them any favors. There were a lot of times when JD drops too deep after snapping out of the shot gun, making it hard to step up into the pocket. He has no pocket presence. A good qb coach could work that out.

Tennessee has nothing to apologize about for winning this game, be it because of the turnovers and penalties or some other reason. The DNA of this game is errors and mistakes.
