Doug Mathews raging against coaching machine

this, and this alone, is what makes tn a laughing stock. Make budget hire after budget hire, pay buy out after buy out, instead of paying for a proven coach up front. It's like winning battles in war, turning those wins over to people who wont fight to keep it, then having to fight the battle again to retake it. It's an endless cycle of failure. We have spent enough money from fulmer's buyout on, to hire saban, myer or an coach we wanted. But no, ut insist on insanity, doing the same thing over and over, while expecting different results. Our only hope for success in ut sports is to hire a chancellor, ad and hc who are all three committed to excellence.

Butch is a decent guy who dug us out of the dumpster we were in after Dooley. He has been a solid, but not fantastic, recruiter who has built up the roster to respectable levels. BUT, he is not a SEC level coach when all is said and done. His offense is only successful against slow, undisciplined defenses. His ability to play down to the competition is frustrating and always finds a way to lose one he shouldn't. He has reached his ceiling here and it's time to go, but don't know if that will be as soon as we all want due to his buyout, etc..
It's also obvious he cannot get a team motivated and ready to play.

While obvious to any football observer, I doubt the UT Administration would consider it. Sad, but I think they are perfectly happy with someone who goes 8-4 every year.

With the nose picker and his boss and slick hart I am afraid you are right. The new man will be under the same type dictator just as debord to lyle. I don't think Blackburn will take the job unless he is 100% sure of the desire to get past this 8-4 scenario.

Well when 95K + keep attending game after game, they have no reason to not be happy.

You'd be wrong on that. Hamilton blocked Cut on bringing his guys with him from Duke. If Hamilton would have let Cut do what he wanted, he would have been here. Hamilton was trying to force Cut to keep assistants from Kiffin's staff.

So what you are saying was this was a pissing contest?

Not sure if it was previously stated in this thread but it's worth mentioning/repeating that Doug did not call for anyone to be replaced. In fact, he hung up on a caller who was trying to make a case for firing Debord.

Butch is in a world of hell right now
Let's hope his resillience get's put on display. Should have sensed problems on the rise due to Appy St. but then again the offense produced against 3 of 4 of our quality SEC opponents. Kinda perplexing when you stop and think about it. Had plenty of time to prepare for a significant game and yet UT came out flat once again and failed to execute and turned the ball over. Also had many penalties.

The worst part is everyone sees the problems but the ones who can make the necessary changes do not care as much as we (the fans)do. That is exactly why we hear the excuse "Not going to pay the buyout" but will pay for multi million dollar renovation . Which is going to add more Luxury suites. They do not care what we think. They know no matter what we are loyal to the Vols and will keep coming.
the common Vols fan has no voice and it sucks that we have to be ok with whatever the higher ups shove down our throats.
We could boycott their azz. Unity has a big say when used properly

so, he was just trying to antagonize someone to start
a revolution and overthrow the coaching staff...:eek:lol:

GO VOLS!

DM better watch attacking Shoop. He'll be labeled stupid by the "Shoop can do no wrong" crowd here

I said last week Shoop was a disappointment and was attacked by many. I guess it takes an ex coach to tell you that theyve played man all yr with kids who can't cover. Got beat in man from VaTech on. But finally it's pointed out by the ex coach. Thanks DM
Yeah everybody knows it and it's technique which falls on Shoop first, then Martinez. They definitely aren't being developed properly and i'm thinking Shoop will address this.

Rewriting history on here just a bit. The cry of NO. To hiring Cut was deafening. He was a Fulmer guy and we needed something else was what was widely said.

To be realistic they were lucky to be 5-0 only one game where they came out and got the lead and that was Ohio.
How I miss the pro style offense.

Never understood why since we had a gem of a QB in Bray. Logic says hell yes give this kid Cut as coach.

No, the story that was told by hyams is where they refused to let him think about it and he asked to go home and talk it over with his wife. They refused and wanted his answer. Either way he us not the coach.

Oh my bad. My good friend, UT ALUM, on the Duke football staff, and Cut's right hand man must be mistaken.

I hope some dirt comes out on butch so we can get rid of him. He's not a good coach. All talk

I hate to agree, but I do. After 3.7 seasons it's become very apparent that CBJ A) is an awful game day coach and B) doesn't surround himself with the right assistants.

In the real world, if the boss consistently under performs when they have everything they need to succeed at their disposal and continues to make poor hiring decisions, they are sent packing. Unfortunately, winning the big bad outback bowl a year ago was enough to put UT on the hook for tens of millions of dollars if CBJ were ever fired.

Don't you just wish you could get a multi million dollar payday to absolutely suck at your job?

Without a doubt. And they'd run us out of the stadium if we played them to boot.

They might be 7-1 with Tennessee's schedule but they wouldn't be 7-1 with the schedule PLUS injuries. Half of the returning starters been out of key games vs AM & Bama plus numerous players out through the season. Michigan isn't near all that great. Bama would beat them healthy by 3 TDs easily.
