Doug Mathews on NOW

If Fulmer is involved then that means no chip kelly. Don't see those 2 being a good match.

If Phil has his way I'd say it's Cutcliffs job. Maybe bring Tee in for oc and head coach in waiting. I'd be ok with a scenario like that if Cut surrounded himself with top flight recruiters. Keep Coach G and Warren, and go from there.

Please give me hope Doug.

He didn’t.

Said he was gonna discuss “the elephant in the room”, and then did nothing of the sort.

Said Jones is definitely gonna get to coach the Kentucky game, that he’s looking forward to watching the young players play next week.

Nothing but “if” the leadership wants to make a change, “if” they’re making a decision......had the unmitigated gall to say numerous times “IF the leadership decides that Jones can’t build a championship team here”.....it was UNBELIEVABLE!!

He wouldn’t get anywhere near what needed to be said. Very disappointed listening to Doug Mathews this morning....not his best day and quite honestly, I lost some respect for him this morning.

A bowl will save Butch, basically.

Lol. We look like we’re on a train to 3-9, which would be an unforgivable offense by Currie. He can stop the train at anytime.

I have been to UGA and Bama games. I have a ticket to Mizzou. Not that I’m important, but I’m not going next year to see more of CBJ ball.

We’ll beat Southern Miss and we’ll win at least one SEC game, but that’s it imo.

You must have subpar listening comprehension skills. He said he thinks he will be fired and Fulmer will be helping to look for next coach.

Never once said he thinks Butch will be fired, not once. Said only that the decision is being made right now WHETHER OR NOT Jones will be kept, based on whether or not they think he is a championship level coach....LMFAO.

Only thing he said about Fulmer was that as an employee of the university that he probably will be and definitely should be part of the hiring decision IF the decision is made to fire Butch.

If DM thinks CBJ may be a championship-level coach, why bother listening to him?

Did DM at least give his own opinion of CBJ?

He did not, which is what I thought he was surely gonna do. Just kept saying “If the decision-makers believe a change needs to be made....” etc, etc.

Interesting that he said bad decision making from the UT powers goes back a decade and a half rather than just 10 years. That would take us back to 2002. That year was the first "post Spurrier" at Florida when everyone thought the Vols would take over the SEC. Hmmm...oh well...we know the rest of that story.

He's talking about Jimmy Ray Stephens (OL coach) and Sanders replacement IMO.

Stephens was terrible.

Philip also should have hired his long term OC in 2006 instead of bringing back Cut for a quick fix.

That was a waste of my time. Glad he isn't part of the decision making process. We would have Butch for five more years.

You got that out of today's show? Doug was obviously on board with replacing Butch today. It was a matter of when it should be done and who will be making the decision - not if.

ALL of Fulmer's success here was based upon Cutcliff. UT was never really good unless Cut was here running the offense. We should have kept Cut and let Fulmer go.

Yes, this is more accurate. He also said he felt Peyton may possibly be involved. He indicated those two would not be involved if the decision was going to be made similar to how it has in the past (implied Haslam making the decision without others input carrying value). He also said potential candidates will reach out to Fulmer and possibly Peyton about the program even if the administration does not want Fulmer or Peyton involved.

You need to understand Doug's language. He did say he believed he would be fired and indicated if the decision was his it would happen.

Doug just using talking points today. Nothing meaningful. I turned it off when he started talking about the possibilty of bringing back this shat show next year.

Not since Walt Harris anyway. Cut and Phil had the symbiotic thing going on. They needed each other for a SEC team. That being said, I bet Phil would have failed at Duke.

DM has been a loyalist to this point. He was even pushing the contract extension to some degree before the season.

You must have missed last week.

He clearly indicated that Butch has a mismatch between the offense and the personnel, that player development is lacking and that falls on the head coach, that the it does not make sense to not put the best players on the field, and that any lack of depth falls on the head coach that has had 5 years to develop depth.

Doug just says it without the screaming and wailing.
