We definitely need a coach that would fight with his star player on nationwide television and then go 5 days without trying to resolve the situation.

It’s this desperation bottom-feeding mentality of our FB Admin and fan base that’s sunk us in failed HC search after failed search.

We hire a crap HC who divides our fan base as we hold on for dear life as he drives us even farther into the ditch until he finally taps out then we’re stuck with a huge buyout and whatever list of HC candidate hopefuls and wannabes are available atm.

We’re mired in a hiring / firing death spiral of our own making. So it’s time to break the cycle.

We need to take a big moment and understand that ALL of our problems can be solved by proactively targeting a proven winning A-LIST P5 HC. No more projects, retreads, on the job learners, coordinators or P5 B and C listers like Jones or Kiffin.

TWO solid gold proven A-list HCs just happen to be available right now: Meyer and Stoops.

So what are we waiting for? Start back channel discussions and back up the Brinks truck. Don’t take no for an answer. Or mothball the football program.

And spare me the usual circular arguments of UT is broke and/or no good HC wants to come here or Meyer is a pos etc etc “I’ll hang up and listen”.

Saban is a pos but Bama went after him and got him bc their storied program became a dumpster fire and it just so happens Saban was eager to get out of Miami and the NFL. So knowing they needed a proven SEC HC to fix their mess Bama made Saban an offer he couldn’t refuse. Not bc they interviewed him along with 15 other HC hopefuls as part of an “extensive search”.

Time to stop treating our storied FB program as an experimental laboratory.

In all fairness this generation of NFL players egos dont deserve a resolution other than punishment. Lol

He's a good coach and his style of coaching is more effective in college than in the pros.

But I doubt he gets fired. His 6th round pick QB has a really alistic chance to win ROY. If they win 6 games and have their QB of the future he won't get fired.

This is all true. But maybe we’ll luck out and he’ll decide he doesn’t want to deal with Coughlin.

As a Head Coach, there are proper ways to handle issues. There is a reason that there is such a thing. I understand an assistant blowing up during the game, but the Head Coach needs to keep his head, he is the face of the program, needs to be the shining light. I’m in management and there is a way I have to act. Employees under me are my responsibility to direct in the correct way. What does it prove by me doing things the wrong way? No different with a coach, especially a Head Coach.

He will probably be fired by Jacksonville this year and he's said Tennessee is his ultimate dream job. He has a relationship with Fulmer.
He has turned us down before and I am not sure he is as good as we have. I do think he was a pretty good coach on offense, but I think he missed his chance a few years ago. Lets stick with what we have and see what happens when we have a reliable QB. I know that will take another year or two, but we will have to wait another year or two anyway.

4 years ago Illinois took a Super Bowl Champion coach and are paying him big bucks to turn their program around. Lovie Smith was 4-8 last year and has not had a winning season yet.
Funny, I was reading their forum and a lot of fans are saying he just needs more time even though this season doesn’t look any better.

Ok, how did Carroll do at SC? Saban at MSU, LSU or Bama?

We would be extremely lucky to get him. He is an excellent coach, and knows football.

Wouldn’t completely hate it but he doesn’t seem the type to head a ship very long.

The stupid of some posters is astounding. There are tons of examples of coordinators with no previous experience as a head coach became great head coaches...

See what I did there? You can because you’re bright.

My point is UT needs to shell out and get a coach that instantly pumps the fan base up. Not someone the average fan has never heard of PLUS just got fired. See how that doesn’t create a headline on ESPN that’s “cool” and “eye catching?” You can...you’re bright.

And don’t tell me “we don’t need flashy we need a good coach.” 🙄
So we should try to win the press conference? Marrone is a hell of a coach.
