"Doubting Thomas" and "Negative Nelly" abound in Vol fandom.

Lol. Yes it is. Many on here are upset and disappointed because Pruitt didnt land a class full of 4 and 5* studs. Its like they expected him to do so. After going 0-8 in the SEC last year and a brand new coaching staff, he is supposed to come in here and kill it? Thats delusional 101.

Nope pretty sure we are disappointed because we missed on all 10 top targets after hearing good news on many of them before this week.

I love how some of our fans think that if a fan is worshipping at the alter of CJP, then they have jumped ship before hos first game.

Very few are "worshipping at the alter of CJP" (God that's such an ignorant metaphor), but quite a few really need to grow a set and quit acting like pu**ies....

The only thing this thread needs is a "real fan" to tell us that they are a "real fan".

I’m a real fan. Go VOLS! I’m excited to see how these coaches and team do. We don’t want problems like Ole Miss has. It’s a process (ha).

Come on guys. If we didn’t have the complainers this board wouldn’t exist. Point/counterpoint... if they were all sunshine and roses, after 20 BOOOM’s the thread would die.

How anyone has any emotion left, positive or negative, is the mystery here.

I’m still shelkshocked, with a permanent thousand yard stare plastered on my face.

Wow,from a three ring circus slight of hander in BJ, to three straight pretenders as ADs before PF,to an interminable coaching search,to a 4-8 season with no SEC wins, some posters on this forum sure were expecting "pie in the sky" results in 2018 recruiting. From being ranked in the 60's before early signing to number 20 is a good achievement. No,the sky is not falling, and we must wait for results on the field to make an intelligent decision. We have excellent coaches,so let's see their on field product, before completely losing faith in them. Remember, they went after players that the other big name schools wanted as well. So we missed out on a lot and got trolled by some. Results on the gridiron start this fall. We'll see then where we stand. Until then Pruitt bashing should be relegated to the back burner.

Well said... I'm looking forward to the 1st game... we'll see what we have then...

Still taking a 'wait and see' approach...if folks think the past several weeks are enough to definitively say whether Pruitt's tenure is going to be more or less successful than the previous coach's tenure, they're kidding themselves. That's not negativity or sunshine, that's reason and logic.

I'm ready for another season of Vol football to arrive; once that's underway the celebrations/'booms' or hand-wringing/teeth-gnashing may well be warranted. Go Vols.

What? You mean people are negative or doubtful? You'd think Tennessee hadn't won a championship in 20 years or something. That we had fiasco after fiaco in our coaching hires. That our current head coach had exactly 0 wins as a head coach. That our current coordinators were also extremely inexperienced. Good thing none of those are true..

Hope Pruitt can coach em up, but what you say is Truth....UT football has had so many issues and problems in the last 10 years that there will be an ESPN 30 for 30 titled The Desolation of Rocky Top.......

I believe most of Volnation( The Sensible Ones and Fans not just looking for a reason to 8itch and complain) are all in on JP. I posted something last night about First year coach's at a new school or their first HC job. The majority finished 15th and worse their first recruiting class. Just a few were Saban, Carroll, Dabo, Meyer,Franklin among others. I think we can all agree they are all good coach's who could recruit. The ones bashing JP for finishing #20th and saying he can't recruit need to refer to all the Coach's I included last night. And none of them had to deal with an early signing period. The one thing I'm not concerned with is him being able to recruit and develop players. Some fans are gonna complain about everything little thing because they aren't supporting JP. I believe he's gonna do really good things here personally. I was not disappointed at all in our signing class nor was it a bust like some claim. I completely agree with what you said!

We didnt lose half the team to injuries
We didnt start 75% true freshman.
Noone except OD and alwaysforut thought we could beat Alabama.

Editorial hyperbole, but I stand by the points.

We had a ton of injuries to our best players during the CBJ reign of terror. Particularly earlier in his tenure, we played a ton of underclassmen. Through both of those situations many expected us to beat everyone - coach 'em up. e.g., there should be no drop-off from a healthy Darrin Kirkland to a walk-on? Jennings to seldom-used underclassmen? Hall to a freshman? etc. etc. Delusional.

With a few lonely bright spots (Dobbs, DB, Malone, Kamara, Daniels...), Tennessee has been a total #### show the past decade. Even the two 9-4 seasons weren't that great - kinda like CHW and her 75% winning percentage or whatever it is - beats the teams that don't matter (until this year), can't beat the teams that matter.

Like all of us, I'd have loved to see us pull in a few more studs yesterday. Just don't see being critical of CJP given the circumstances. He has a long row to hoe. If he pulls off a top class next year, I'll be very impressed.

Good grief.

Maybe read up on the concept of a general characterization.

Take the Southern Miss game as an example. Rucker did an article that said there were 21 scholarship players injured. Was that literally half the roster? No (you win). Was it a huge percentage (like maybe 50%?) of players that normally would be expected to play significantly? Yes. Despite a large number of injuries to key players being the norm the past 4-5 years, were the expectations of many still that we should kick everyone's butt? Yes.

Could I have been more accurate by going back the past 5 seasons and determining the precise number of injured players game by game and quoting specific metrics? Yeah. But I'm kinda guessing most people with reading comprehension skills recognized the general characterization of "we've had a ton of injuries" - whether they agree with the point I was making or not.

And other than od noone expected us to beat alabama
