The offense faced a third-and-6 on Quinten Dormady's second and final possession at quarterback in Tennessee's spring game Saturday when the junior escaped from the stereotype, at least for a moment. Dormady took a shotgun snap, quickly stepped up to avoid a rushing defensive end, then sprinted to his right and delivered a strike to Tyler Byrd that kept an eventual touchdown drive alive.

The play offered a glimpse at the athletic ability of a passer sandwiched by mobile quarterbacks. "I don't get much credit for being athletic," Dormady said afterward. "I don't know why, but I definitely think I've proven that I can move the ball however it needs to be moved."

...The perception is that Guarantano, a redshirt freshman, can replicate the production Dobbs frequently supplied with his legs. But Dormady contests the implication that he is an immobile candidate to replace the NFL-bound Dobbs.

Dormady won't have to be athletic as Dobbs was if he can actually hit a wide open receiver instead of throwing the ball 6 feet over his head. Loved Dobbs but he brought a lot of those 3rd and long on himself. Yes I agree the line wasn't the best, but Dobbs did have some accuracy issues.

Well he definitely has that.

Ive been saying hes more athletic than people give him credit for since he got here. He's not Worley 2.0 like people think.

I agree. I honestly don't think there's much game speed difference between JG and QD. He's no slow poke. I think his smoothness kind of makes him look slower than he's actually moving.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc all run or ran (PM) a form of spread formations. And as you all know they don't have very much mobile athletic ability. Yes, I understand Jones scheme is mostly RPOs base but as long as you have a QB that can get the ball to his playmakers in space and on time any QB (Mobile or Pocket) can run it. Dormady can run this offense efficiently as long as Kelly and the other backs keep the defense honest in the run game.

The O&W game was just a small sample size we as fans have gotten to see. But it was enough to see that Dormady has won the eye test and a QB that can run this offense.

He is athletic enough. A lot of people just think JG has more potential.

JG was a little of Saturday and Dormady was on if Dormady plays like he did Saturday he is the starter simple as that but you can't hand him the job on a quarter of ball but if he plays like this the job is his.

Dobbs did do that. That is why he will be drafted pretty early. We had third and longs because we were predictable on the firs two downs. Dobbs also had more passes dropped than another qb that is in the draft. Yet he still was the best qb in the best conference. No need to bash Dobbs.

Not bashing him. I said he had some accuracy issues and that I loved him.

This is what has blew me away how can he improve in 3 months to be a second round draft pick when at times he couldn't hit a wide open screen pass or a man going deep over and over man i am pulling for him to be a first round pick but i am going of what i have seen the last 3 and half years hard for me to believe he has improved that much to jump to the second round.

He doesn't though. He fixed them. Dormady threw several inaccurate passes versus the scrubs he played the last two years too. Dobbs was over 60% vs a tough schedule even with more dropped passes and bad routes by wrs than any other qb in the draft. He was plenty accurate last year. If Dormady starts he will have a few games where he is inaccurate. All qbs do. No need to make up lies about Dobbs to hype Dormady. If he was such a better passer he would have challenged Dobbs for the starter's role.

How do you say a guy that completed 62%+ of his passes even with a bunch of throwaways due to pressure and wr drops can't hit a screen. He was also the top deep ball passer in the SEC and top 20 in the nation. Did you even watch last year?

He wasn't the top deep ball passer in the SEC? Did Dormady challenge him to start? Did he not complete 63% last year?

Those are FACTS.

And these aren't.

If he was such a better passer he would have challenged Dobbs for the starter's role.

Strongly worded opinions...that's a fact. :)

agree. I think these 1st and 2nd round projections are absolutely nuts. Dobbs is 3rd at very best and that's even with a terrible QB selection this year. I'd be surprised if he goes before the 5th.

Dobbs had his shortcomings, although he improved most of them significantly throughout the season last year, he still missed alot of easy throws. Seemed like those were his worst passes, like screens and dump off passes but with the improvement he showed last season I think GM's see a guy with tons of potential thats very smart and selfless which points to a guy that could easily be coached up. Teams that run a RPO offense could probably do alot with Dobbs in a short amount of time.

Ill be the 1st to admit i had doubts before last season of him even being drafted (and the night of the S Car game they came back around) but he just kept improving so the potential is there.

As far as Dormady, if he gets the ball out of his hands as quick and accurate as he did @ the O&W game he wont have to be very mobile. He seems mobile enough if he keeps that live arm.

Marino was impossible to sack with his quick release. And he made Dormady look like an Olympic athlete.
