Dormady officially named Tennessee's backup QB

Ugh, I think as slow as Worley was he could have kept a few of those and got first downs.

Oh yeah. Finally the whole d would catch on and just collapse on the RB. You'd look up and see a gaping hole for Worley to jog towards if he would've just kept 1 out of 5. It really was just a 2 second delay handoff in slow motion....just giving the d extra time to fill gaps.

I can laugh about it now I suppose but my lord I've never yelled at TV more in a single year.

I don't recall all the accolades for JG thus far being only about his arm. That's certainly part of it, but I recall hearing that he was really good in general during a recent Saturday night scrimmage.

Of course the intangibles matter, a great QB obviously has to put it all together. But having a strong, accurate arm ain't a bad thing to start with....beats the alternative.

The excitement about JG is that he appears to perfect for this system. Early signs point to great athletic ability ala Dobbs and coaches are seeing a cannon. Lots to be excited about...so i hear. 😀

Dormady is SOLID. I hope he gets a lot of mop up duty in every game this year.....that will mean we have biga$$ leads! Its great to be a Tennessee Vol.....:dance2:

I agree. I'm actually looking forward to watching QD this year in blowouts. Game reps will be very valuable to him this year. Hope to see him run meaningful plays not just hand offs.

I'd like to see the whole second unit on both sides get in midway in the third against Apo St. Excited to see some newcomers as well! Just win first I know but lots of talent I've heard about for so long.

In the words of Bart Scott: CANT WAIT!!!!

It was maddening to watch Worley fake the handoff over and over and over when there was absolutely no chance he was going to keep it.

Except for when he did like once every other game and picked up 26 yards.

How long has it been since we have been this excited about the backup QB? Signs of greater times ahead. Go Big Orange!

I'm sick of hearing about the backup QB.

He was very unimpressive last year in the OBB.

If Dobbs were to go down with an injury this season, I'm pretty sure JG would be the next man up.

What does this mean? By all media and practice observer accounts, JG is the real deal and wowing this summer. I've honestly not watched one second of practice video but I read and listen to anything I can get my hands on about Team 120 and I've just not heard or read anything about Sheriron being in the QB mix....it seems to be all JG vs QD when duscussing who backs up Dobbs and legitimately fights for being the 2017 starter.

To summarize my crappy English. All I mean is that nobody on VN (outside Fingers etc) know almost nothing about SJ. He has no tape from last yr etc.
Yes, JG has had great reviews so far. But a redshirt year is huge at the QB position, especially early.

Although nobody really knows @ either, some here have wildly varying opinions on them.

Long time visitor, first time poster. I always love coming here for my fix of great Vol info and insight. Occasionally, I even get a few laughs from some of the wittier posters here.

Someone earlier asked for a shorter and quicker name to use for our prized Freshman Quarterback of the future - Jarrett Gurarantano. I would like to present one to my fellow Vol brethren: JaGuar.

Boom

Butch said so Tuesday. He is going to be a very good QB imo. I would love it if Butch had a few packages that he ran this year. Would bring a different look for D's to deal with.

Not to look ahead past a great year. But next year's QB battle could be epic with QD, SJ, & JG. I can't ever remember this much talent at one time at QB in a four deep. Dobbs and 3 four stars behind him.

Agree. Sounds like Dobbs only without the accuracy issues and a bigger arm. Awfully early so you never know but so far so good. I'm also a QD fan so I really like where we are with our QBs. A good healthy QB battle ought to be fun to follow next spring. Gonna be some contentious debate in some threads on here, that's for sure.

First of I'm married so I'm sorry but I can't be your volentine. Second after laughing for a few minutes I approve of the name JaGuar. Any second? Oppose?

Sheriron is good enough to win ball games for us.

But Dormady is a real prospect.

JG won't start until year 3, unless Dormady gets hurt.

QD can take this offense to another level.

We ran for the 2nd most yards in school history last season. Peyton threw for 3819 yds and 37 td's as a senior, but he threw 477 pass attempts. While his completion percentage was 60% (Dobbs was 59.6%).What is the new level you talk about? It can either be achieved by more passing yds or more running yds. A new level achieved by improving both categories would be difficult. We averaged 35 pts again last year. An increase in scoring would be a new level, but at the end of the day, a win is all that matters.

Yup. Sheriron should have stayed at Colorado if he wanted to play. This is what happens when you recruit really well at the QB position.

Would you consider the running game improved if they gained 5% fewer yards in 2016 but did it with 15% fewer attempts? Is the running game better or worse if the YPC goes up but number of running attempts goes down?

Same with passing. Are the total passing yards the only measurement of improvement? Is a higher completion percentage on fewer attempts not improvement also?

I also feel bad for Sheriron. You never want to see a kid get looked over and not even get a shot at seeing the field, but at the same time this is what happens when you attend a higher-caliber program that is competing for titles. You join for the chance to win a championship and to compete with the best. Not everyone is going to get their shot.

Look at teams like OSU, Bama, and now Clemson. Just a few examples of teams that load up at the QB position and have a bunch of talent that never sees the field. If kids want to go to a school and get guaranteed playing time then they know which programs to attend. I applaud Sheriron for wanting to come back and finish things out here and not backing down from a challenge.

Bama hasn't really LOADED up at the QB spot but their offense doesn't require a 5* all world QB to be successful..,obviously

What's really interesting is a bunch of posters that haven't watched 1 second of practice but feel qualified ordaining the next QB. It's really funny...

Blake Barnett, 5 star
David Cornwell, high 4 star
Cooper Bateman, 4 star

With all due respect, that's pretty loaded IMO. You're right about not needing a highly rated QB or even one that has any real experience.....they find a way to make whomever they choose very efficient, very productive and they win championships with whoever they run back there.
