Dormady montage: all 10 throws + QB Challenge

Plus, the clap just says, "I'm ready" to the center. The center then takes a second to see if any defenders are over-eager...if he can catch them off sides, he will. It not, he snaps the ball. It all happens in a second or two, so you might have missed that's how it works, JCW.

I hope you are correct.

Next time we're playing (or you can pull up old video from last year's games), watch the center. When the QB claps, he's looking back. He then raises his head, glances at the D, sometimes looking to the left and right, then snaps.

That glance is proof that it's not automatic, that the center is making a decision of his own before snapping.

That's good that the center is doing that, but the clap still gives the defense the heads up that the snap is happening.

no more than the play clock telling them that the play is coming some time in the next :08 seconds... :07 ... :06 ... etc.

They know a play is coming, and soon. But having to wait to see the center's hand move keeps them honest. The clap gives none of that away.
