Dormady did a lot better than you think:

Caleb Calhoun, you're back in your groove. This, this is the kind of subject matter you should be writing about. Glad you veered well away from trying to be a medical doctor look-alike (the "Shy Tuttle shouldn't play until X" article).

A little over the top with the hyperbole ("against one of the most elite and experienced secondaries in the country" ... Ga Tech?), but still a nice little article.

Dormady would have had over 300 yds if not for the drops in the first half. This was all with inexperienced WRs as well.

QD played great for his first game. You could tell he was nervous early on but he settled in and made some good throws and more importantly took care of the ball. JG didnt play because our possessions were so limited we couldnt afford for him to throw a pick. Not saying he for sure would have but the guy is a RS freshman with 0 game experience. Risk we couldnt take.

I would trade the Vols secondary for GT secondary in a heartbeat. Vols WRS had to make tough catches, took some hard hits and GT secondary made at least 2 open field tackles that stopped drives. Other than Callaway's 50 yd TD run, they looked damn good.

OTOH, Vols secondary (less Gaulden) looked lost, left guys wide open in 3rd and long & missed tackles that turned into big plays. I think Warren is a good coach but Im thinking the talent back (primarily CB) there just isn't very good. I think Warrior and Abernathy were OK but nothing like the safeties of GT.

Good, positive and objective perspective, Caleb Calhoun.

I hope Mr. Swain reads and considers these accomplishments.

And to think: he/this Offense accomplished all of this, in only 18:33 (vs Tech's 41:27)

Stats don't always tell the whole story. Lets hope if he continues to start he makes way better decisions, stops staring wrs down, and sailing passes high.

See, I would say almost the polar opposite about Ga Tech's DB corps.

If we'd been playing a FL or UGa defense, a few of QD's first half throws would absolutely have been interceptions. Ga Tech's defenders were fine, but do not have nearly the quickness or situational awareness of the really good defensive backfields.

On the other hand, aside from Justin Martin's inexplicably terrible game (or rather, half-game, before he got rightfully pulled), our lads did pretty well. Not perfect, by any means, but not turrible. And when it mattered most, two of them (Gaulden and Abernathy) came up with a hugely important forced turnover.

So I'm not quite, but almost 180 degrees out from you on this one, Wmco.

Getting the "W" is all that matters, right? I am not so sure, giving up a crap load of running yards and never adjusting to what GT was doing is just unfathomable. Not to mention there was no rotation of the DT's all game, I just don't get it.

Maybe the coaches sat down before the game and said we are going to do "This" and we are making no adjustments no matter what happens. Possible but insane.

Yea. GTs guys were terrible and missed a bunch of int and pbu opportunities.

Let's see, Manning was a true FR. and his 1st start was against one of the best (based on actual stats) D's vs. Washington St.

And he made fairly light of Tee's debut against a very good Syracuse team.

I thought Dormady played well considering the lights were on and the bullets were real. That was the perfect game/ scenario/ atmosphere to get your feet wet.

This will serve him...and UT well when they head to Gainesville.

Casey Clausen beat Alabama with his first start going 17-24 for 213 yards and 2 TDs. That is the best start ever hands down

Can't forget the two drives that ended with Jennings and Johnson not making an effort to get to the first down line.

I came home from the ATL pumping more sunshine than I figured I would be...beginning with the final play of that arduous come-from-behind thriller at the Benz. All along, though, the only flaw showing from young Quinten Dormady was his nervousness under pressure; caused by a notably quick and disciplined Yellow Jacket defense. GT's secondary, as CC denoted, is indeed very, very good. Nonetheless, QD kept it together the whole time, took great care of the ball and stuck to the coach's strategy without panicking and dubiously improvising while escaping all that pressure. That's the downfall of many a QB under such circumstances. Surprising to most everyone, aside from those of us who know better, John Kelly is a bona fide SEC speed/power back and Callaway is, likewise, a bona fide SEC tall/fast/clutch WR. Our OL improved and adjusted pretty well after halftime and, as for Butch's/Scott's play calling, the mix was appropriate and clutch calls were just-as-needed. I'm not all that worried about UT's offense this year. On D: DT depth, although it'll be better supplanted on team 122, appears to be the weak link for Coach Shoop; that and Justin Martin's disappointing showing. Hey, Paul Bain. Make something click in your head and let's hope Shy's going to be in there and at full strength in Gainesville, then maybe this'll be a more fun season than last year's roller coaster ride.:twocents:

He is a good player, but he played really bad on Monday. He made bad decisions where he threw into coverage, locked on one receiver consistently, and was inaccurate on most of his throws over 5 yards.

I hope he gets it together, but the stats are way inflated by Callaway taking over the game.

Formatting could've been better, but aside from a couple of throws, he was fine after the 1st quarter.

Not taking anything away from Dormady's performance, but Tyler Bray's first start was more impressive.

QD handled all of the bad snaps(way to many) with poise & confidence. He continued with the play and never panicked.

The way QD handled the bad snaps was very impressive and definitely overlooked. Not many QBs can keep their poise after a bad snap. Most of the time it throws off the timing and results in a bad play.

The ONLY real issue I had with QD was staring down his receivers a lot. It worries me if he continues this trend going into SEC play because he will see a lot better defenses. I know with experience he will become much better but it was also a problem in HS if you watch his highlights.

All that said, I would like for JG to get some live reps this week just incase, but QD has earned the right to be the unquestioned started as of now IMO

All QB's stats are "inflated" by playmakers...unless they don't get em the ball.

He might get better each game after his first start. That's if he notices or the coaches bother telling him. :)
