Propst shouldn't have been a 4 star. Harris should've been a 4 star but not Propst.

What gives me confidence is the offensive line that is being built. We are deeper than we have been in 10 years. We do that on the d-line and we are going to be competitive with anyone.

And the OL coach in charge of coaching them. No Jimmy Ray Stevens types and no Cody Pope's (not trying to be mean) for the first time in awhile.

Imani Cross - committed at Jr day & some people didnt like it, now he is getting courted by other BCS schools.

Khalid Henderson - came to camp earned an offer & then committed a week later, now rated a 4* on ESPN & everyone thinks he can contribute now.

But Dooley is in over his head & cant recruit all he wants are good kids that have high GPA's, he isnt worried about getting talent. :eek:lol:

Not really sure you should include Florida in this discussion right now. All of those kids Florida "went after" were because Muschamp was just hired and he was trying to get as many kids locked down for the 2011 class as he could. Smith, Williams, and Crowder never had any real chance of being Gators. Those kids were never "must-get" targets for Florida and were never high priority.

Not hating, trolling, or whatever.........but to your point, Dooley is doing a good job and your fan base needs to chill on getting hung up in the star-rating game.

That's what alot of your fan base looks at...........does UF, Bama, LSU go after these guys, to determine the kid's ability and to a lesser extent Dooley's ability to evaluate.

I don't recall saying that either about UF, I just mentioned none of those kids were must get and the original poster was making the point that dooley saw talent, and then everyone else caught up with him. those kids were never must gets for us, that's all.

No they don't. Even with the #1 class last year Bama took some 3* players. One of the recruiting analyst acknowledged favoritism toward Bama recruits when it came to ratings. It is far more true that the recruiting svcs follow certain coaches than the top coaches follow the recruiting svcs.
We recruit primarily 3 and a few 4 star players. Fl. and Alabama can afford to lose 30 % of their class to the bust column while we can afford to lose about 10%.

The percentages are off but the point is absolutely correct. Dooley is hoping that he can get players that will stick and be developed.
The point here is Dooley by chosing to recruit his brilliant evaluation rather than the consensus evaluation just has absolutely no room for error. It is a stupid way to recruit unless you just can't compete as a recruiter. Just that simple.

Yes he is and no it isn't. Dooley is trusting his own evaluation abilities. If my job is on the line then I am going to surround myself with people I believe in... not hot shots who may or may not be as good as their hype.

If he fails... it won't be because he was a "follower".

And... since the followers have been pretty much failing to compete with those top teams either on the field or in landing those players... it is pretty stupid to try to do it that way.

Yeah he had about 15-20 tackles in mop up duty right. Come on dude. I'm all for calling it like I see it. If he was a good MLB for us I would be bragging about him. But he has proven nothing as of right now.

It's way too early to say one way or another on Dooley's talent evaluation abilities because he's only been here one season. If 3-4 years from now Tennessee is still averaging 6 win seasons then I'd say his talent evaluation wasn't that good afterall. If he's averaging 9 or 10 wins then it was.

Exactly. The LB situation in particular is pathetic so of course there is going to be marginal talent seeing the field.

Also how can anyone say someone getting playing time for a 6-7 team is actually playing above a 3-star level???

Bottom line is Probst made freshman All-SEC because most of the good linebackers in the freshman class went to Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU and are biding their time and waiting their turn to see the field. Probst would never have gotten any PT, not even mop up PT at any of those schools. He did at Tennessee because the talent sucks.

Or just doesn't exist. There wasn't anyone available to challenge him for the position.

Rex and Thunder both posted the Rivals top 25 with UT coming in at #9. Of course, there were the obligatory, "Stars don't equal talent," comments without noting the UTs abysmal attrition during the past 5 years.

Darrelle Revis was a 3 star recruit...he's now the best cb in the NFL. 3 Stars have more potential to be great than most people realise. If Reveiz can be a starter on this team so can Propst.

I truly believe the vast majority on here don't know anything about football or recruiting players. The fact that this is a free site lends itself to unknowledgable kids who have no idea what they are talking about. They care about stars without regard to player development. JMO!
