In 2008 we ran the ball well against UCLA. But Clawson thought the game was won, and let Crompton skip-pass, errr, I mean air it out for most of the second half in hopes of the lights coming on.

I've been bullish about Clawson, but that game was on him.

Yeah, an idiotic second half defensive gameplan with complete refusal to adjust had zero to do with it. Also, the special teams were simply phenomenal in that game.

That game was the epitome of failure from the head man down to the ball boys.

Masoli having his average game would have made the game FAR more interesting (and would have exposed the offensive gameplan quickly).

However, he had a Crompton-esque performance instead, and our boys capitalized.

Masoli has never had an "average" performance when he's been forced to rely solely on the pass.

He's not a very good passer and Ole Miss' receivers are average this year, period.

Also, I'm unsure how Clawson assumed the game was won when we never led by more than 7 points and actually trailed more than once in the second half.

I believe kentucky's pass defense ranks 12th in the country. They give up enough rushing yards to make up for it though. Thus the need to run it down their throat.

I'm pretty sure the level of competition has had something to do with that. IIRC, USCjr put up a bunch of passing yards against em. They are ranked lower than us on points allowed.

So, what you are saying is: our coaches are stupid, and we only won because of luck. Ok then http://www.volnation.com/forum/images/smilies/default/blink.gif

I'm not sure where you got that idea. I disliked Chaney's game management in the first half. I felt he gave a lifeline to Ole Miss - one they didn't capitalize upon.

Although I think our toughest challenge remains, no one can fault how the coaches have kept the team spirits up after a brutal stretch in October, complete with the coaching howler that was LSU. Their team has responded very, very well so far.

Do realize the drive you're advocating Chaney should have ate clock with our sub-1ypc running game occurred with 15 minutes to go in the first half? Of course you don't.

I saw the same thing, as their defense doesn't give up many yards in the passing game. If you look at their pass defense efficiency #'s (Get the stats on SECSPORTS.COM), though, they are worse than UT. It must be because their run defense is so bad nobody is throwing against them. When they do, they have success.

IMO this will be a "Try and score more than they do" game. Can you say Florida State in the late 80's? Cobb & Locke are the real deal and they've got two weeks to get ready for us. Also I look for some creative blitz & coverage packages to confuse Tyler.

I just hope that our talented youngsters can overcome their desire to end the 25 year curse.

GO VOLS !
